  • Today we're gonna be introducing a style of food that most of you guys have probably not had before.

  • and today we're talking about Taiwanese breakfast!

  • Taiwanese breakfast.

  • Here's the spread.

  • Alright, so what can you tell us about, like, what we're looking at right now.

    可以介紹一下 我們看到的是什麼嗎

  • My favorite is dou jiang, mi jiang.

    我最喜歡的是豆漿,米漿

  • Mi jiang is a little bit sweeter but I like mi jiang more.

    米漿甜了一點,但我比較喜歡米漿

  • Okay, mi jiang, what's the difference?

    好,米漿跟豆漿有啥不同?

  • It's peanut and this is soybean.

    一個是花生做的,一個是黃豆做的

  • I'm not gonna lie, I thought that was gravy.

    說真的我以為這是肉汁

  • Mi jiang looks like gravy.

    米漿長得像肉汁

  • You Tiao is dragon tail.

    油條是龍的尾巴

  • It's kind of like a Chinese donut but it has less flavor

    有點像中式多拿滋,但沒啥味道

  • cuz you're using it to dip into things.

    可以用來沾著吃

  • I feel like Taiwanese breakfast is kind of like the other Chinese breakfast.

    我覺得台灣早餐跟中式早餐很像

  • In Taiwanese breakfast, we're taking the mi jiang, which is a sesame paste,

    吃台灣早餐,我們會拿米漿,也就是芝麻醬

  • and we're dipping into that.

    沾油條一起吃

  • And it tastes a little beanie, man.

    其實吃起來有點像豆製品

  • It was sweet, beanie, kind of like red bean like Richie said.

    甜甜的,像Richie說的一樣,有點像紅豆

  • I am used to more of the soymilk.

    還是豆漿喝起來比較習慣

  • Everybody bring your ladles. Come around, come gather around.

    大家都過來舀一點,過來

  • Can I have more soymilk madam? – like the orphan that you are.

    太太,給我點豆漿吧? – (唱歌) 活像是孤兒呀你

  • Dou jiang, soymilk.

    豆漿

  • So what you're noticing about this soymilk is

    你會發現這種豆漿

  • it's not like the Yeo's when you get in the can.

    跟Yeo’s的罐裝豆漿不一樣

  • That's what I was expecting.

    我原本以為豆漿都是那樣

  • Everybody in Asia was drinking soymilk before western people introduced milk.

    在引進西方的牛奶之前,東方人都喝豆漿

  • There's no adjective to describe the flavor of that other than just breakfast.

    除了 "早餐" 沒別的詞能形容這味道

  • Luo bo gao jia dan.

  • Turn up the turnips!

  • Man, one thing I learn today is Taiwanese breakfast is really eggy,

    我今天學到一件事: 台灣早餐很多蛋

  • but I like eggs.

    不過我喜歡蛋

  • Taiwanese breakfast, eggs on eggs!

    台灣早餐,蛋上加蛋!

  • Eggs on eggs on eggs! Eggs on eggs on eggs!

  • What are we gonna find underneath these eggs?

    這些蛋下面會有什麼呢?

  • Cong You Bing with eggs.

    蔥油餅加蛋

  • So this is the green onion pancake with eggs.

    所以這是綠蔥薄餅佐蛋

  • Okay so there's twothat's a two-faced slice. - Mhmm

    好,所以這是雙面的 –嗯哼

  • I think it's important to know that you have a green onion pancake with a green onion egg.

    你得知道,這是綠蔥薄餅加上蔥蛋

  • Yo, these Taiwanese people like these little surprises, man.

    台灣人喜歡這種小驚喜嘛

  • Under the egg you would just get all these new presents.

    蛋下面有各種驚喜!

  • Fan Ttuan.

    飯糰

  • So it's pretty much rice wrapped, inside there's a bunch of different stuff.

    米飯裡面包了各種東西

  • So inside it has You Tiao, again.

    裡面又有油條

  • And then this has pork sung, eggs and pickles.

    還有肉鬆、蛋、醃瓜

  • We added the pickles.

    我們會放醃瓜

  • You know what I love about this one?

    知道為什麼我愛這道嗎?

  • Cuz you have so many different flavors and textures going on.

    因為裡面有各種不同的味道和口感

  • It's kind of sweet too.

    吃起來有點甜

  • You got the sauce, sweet sticky rice.

    吃得到醬汁,香甜軟黏的飯

  • You got the egg.

    還有蛋

  • You got the preserved veggies.

    還有醃製蔬菜

  • You have the Chinese donut.

    還有中式多拿滋

  • And then you have the pork sung.

    最後還有肉鬆

  • I just feel like I'm eating Taiwanese chipotle.

    我覺得好像在吃台式墨西哥捲餅

  • I feel like it's like a complete meal in one bite.

    咬一口就好像吃到完整的一餐

  • Niu Rou Shao Bing.

    牛肉燒餅

  • It's like pastry, inside is egg again,

    像是一種餅,裡面包的還是蛋

  • pickles and meat and it's very flaky.

    還有醃瓜和肉,這很會掉屑喔

  • Uh, so like a Taiwanese sandwich.

    所以這像是台式三明治

  • So flaky.

    很會掉屑

  • Now you'd think that this would taste just like the other dishes

    你可能覺得味道會和飯糰很像

  • cuz it has similar element,

    因為料都差不多

  • but it actually tastes very different than Fan Tuan

    但味道跟飯團其實完全不一樣

  • cuz the beef is sweet.

    因為牛肉是甜的

  • I think Taiwanese people like their food pretty damn dry.

    我覺得台灣人喜歡吃乾得要死的食物

  • Like all their snacks.

    像他們的零食一樣

  • I'm familiar with this but it looks a little bit different than how I'm used to seeing it.

    這我很熟悉,但跟我印象中有點不一樣

  • Xiao Long Bao directly translated into English is little dragon buns,

    小籠包直接翻成英文是小龍包

  • but traditionally we call it, like, steamed pork dumplings.

    但傳統上是稱為蒸豬肉水餃

  • I know dragons are really trendy right now, like how to train a dragon,

    龍現在還挺潮的,像是馴龍高手

  • but guess what, how to train a dragon bun.

    怎不來個,馴龍包高手

  • Gua Bao

    刈包

  • The great makings of a Gua Bao are the perfect balance

    刈包的神奇之處在於食材的完美平衡

  • between the crushed peanuts, the pickled vegetables, the pork belly, the cilantro,

    花生粉、酸菜、控肉、香菜的比例恰到好處

  • and it's like you can't really have too much of any one, otherwise it will throw off the balance.

    任何一樣食材的量太多都會失去平衡

  • Xiang Gu Rou Bao.

    香菇肉包

  • So it's mushroom and meat.

    裡面是香菇和肉

  • I'm gonna take a bite and give my opinion.

  • Yo, Crystal,

  • A different flavor, different spices than everything we've been eating.

    這味道和調味跟我們剛剛吃的都不一樣

  • The mushrooms got the flavor, a little spicy!

    香菇吃起來很有味道,有一點辣!

  • I think it's interesting that a lot of the food looks similar in color and everything,

    很有趣,這些食物看起來很像

  • but actually tasted all a little bit different.

    但吃起來都有點不同

  • You can't be shallow with Taiwanese breakfast. You have to get to know it,

    別小看台灣早餐,你得去深入了解它

  • know its personal, required taste.

  • We still have another Shao Bing they gave us.

  • It's so flaky I think I cut my mouth.

  • That's like eating a donut wrapped around a croissant.

  • That's a craziest dish to me actually.

    對我來說這道最瘋狂了

  • The geoduck.

    象拔蚌!

  • It's so crazy but yet so simple.

    這很瘋狂卻又簡單

  • From now on it's called the geoduck Taiwanese breakfast food.

    從現在起,它就叫象拔蚌之台灣早餐

  • You're putting a stamp on that name?

    你要蓋章命名了嗎?

  • That's it. Boom! Geoduck.

  • Guo tie

    鍋貼

  • Potstickers

    沾鍋鍋貼

  • I think the feeling is different from the xiao long bao to the guo tie.

    我覺得小籠包和鍋貼不一樣

  • The guo tie has some vegetables in it.

    鍋貼裡面多了一些菜

  • Yeah I feel like the xiao long bao was more of a pure pork flavor.

    小籠包則是純豬肉口味

  • The dou hua. Dou hua.

    豆花

  • Dou means bean right? Hua means flower.

    豆意思是豆子,對吧? 花就是花朵

  • Yeah and I like how it's not too sweet.

    沒錯,這不會太甜我喜歡

  • I feel like Chinese people don't actually have a sweet tooth.

    我覺得華人好像不愛吃甜

  • You always see, like, Chinese moms, like, drink some like sodo like even a Capris Sun and just be like

    常看到華人太太喝了美國的飲料像是 Capris Sun 柳橙汁,然後說

  • too sweet, too sweet.

    好甜,太甜了

  • Taiwanese like to keep it traditional. They like to keep it traditional with their snacks.

    台灣人喜歡維持傳統,維持傳統的點心啦

  • They like to keep it traditional with their breakfast.

    還有早餐,都保持傳統風格

  • Taiwanese, we keep it og!

    我們台灣人就是愛傳統!
