Jenny's transcript!
Intro
Hi VoiceTubers! Here we are at the end of the year already. How did this whole year go by so quickly?! Usually, at the beginning of each year, I like to start out by writing my new year resolutions. And you know what’s the one thing that appears repeatedly year after year on my to-do list? I’m embarrassed to say this, but actually, I really want to reorganize the living spaces in the house but have not quite got around to ever completing this task! I think I’ve accumulated too much stuff over the years and often I don’t know where to start!
Our video today shows four ways to organize a living room with closed, open, tech, and movable storage. There are some really useful practical tips, so you should definitely have a look if you are planning on doing some reorganizing as well!
But first, let’s have a listen to our featured sentence and go over some pronunciation tips and vocabulary words.
Here’s our sentence of the day:
Sentence
Next, move on to your books. Place them horizontally or vertically, but they definitely don't need to be in a straight row.
然後,我們開始來整理你的藏書。把書橫放或直放都可以,不一定要排成一排。
Pronunciation Tips:
horizontally
vertically
row
linking words: move on
need to be
in a (sounds like inna)
Vocab:
1.horizontally KK[͵hɑrəˋzɑnt!ɪ] IPA/ˌhɔːr.ɪˈzɑːn.t̬əl.i/
adv. 橫地、水平地 in a way that is parallel to the ground or to the bottom or top edge of something
Example:
The show subtitles run horizontally from left to right at the bottom of the TV screen.
節目字幕在電視螢幕最下方由左到右平行的播放。
2. vertically KK[ˋvɝtɪk!ɪ] IPA/ˈvɝː.t̬ə.kəl.i/
adv. 直地、垂直地 straight up or at an angle of 90° to a horizontal surface or line
Example:
I like to store my books vertically across on the bookshelf, but it seems to collect a lot of dust.
我喜歡在書架上垂直的擺放我的書,但這個方式好像很容易累積灰塵。
3. row KK[raʊ] IPA/roʊ/
n. 排、列 a line of things, people, animals, etc. arranged next to each other
v. 爭吵 to argue, especially loudly
Example:
I saw a row of people standing in the corridor looking into the classroom because there was a student that got into a row with the professor.
我看到走廊上站了一排人往教室裡面看,因為有位學生跟教授在爭吵。
Outro
After watching the video, I really want to give this storage organization another go! The issue with closed storage is that even though the mess is out of sight, the clutter is still there and it’s easy to forget about those things. Have you heard of the famous Marie Kondo? She is a Japanese organizing consultant and even has her own Netflix show where you can watch and learn about her tidying-up method. What I learnt from her method is that we need to learn to let things go, and not hold on to things that no longer ‘spark joy’ in our lives. When the house is less cluttered, it sure puts me in a much better mood! Well, good luck to myself, and hopefully this year I will be able to do this properly and successfully reorganize my living space at home. Thanks for joining me today and guess what!? I’ll be back again in two days time with another episode about water! I look forward to having you back here again. Until then, don’t forget to do your recordings! Have a great week ahead guys! Bye for now.
