Jeff's transcript!
Intro:
Hi, VoiceTubers! This is Jeff Chiao. Pizza, the ultimate finger food for any celebratory occasion. Among all the people I know, I’ve never met anyone who dislikes pizza. From the crunchy crust on the edge to the tasty toppings and stringy cheese on the top, pizza is just an amazing edible bread plate, loaded with whatever you love. Yes, I called it an edible plate, and no, I am not taking it back.

The point is, everyone loves pizza, but do you know what exactly makes it so delicious? Sure, all the ingredients are tasteful by themselves, but when combined together, they then stimulate certain chemical reactions that evolve the widely-loved dish to a whole new level. To learn more about how all things work together to achieve such a gorgeous symphony playing on your taste buds, check out today’s video to find out for yourself. But before doing so, let’s first take a look at today’s featured sentence.

Featured Sentence:
“To balance out an overly acidic pizza sauce, some people add a tiny pinch of baking soda, which is basic, making it an antacid which helps neutralize the acid burn.”
[ 為了平衡披薩醬料中的酸,有些人會加入一小撮鹼性的小蘇打粉來當作酸鹼中和劑,來中和酸性造成的灼燒感。 ]

Let me repeat it one more time, just a little bit slower.

“To balance out an overly acidic pizza sauce, some people add a tiny pinch of baking soda, which is basic, making it an antacid which helps neutralize the acid burn.”

Pronunciation tips:

Our first tip today is “balance out an" in the clause “To balance out an overly acidic pizza sauce”. Sometimes we could connect the ending sound of a word to the beginning of another word. In this example, we connect the “s” sound in the rear end of “balance”, connect it with the start of “out”, and pronounce the phrase as “balanz-out”. Notice that the “s” sound in the “balance” now sounds more like a “z” sound. “Balanz-out”.

Likewise, we could then connect “out” with “an”, and pronounce them as “out-an”. All three words combined, we then have “balanz-out-an”.

In the sentence, it will then sound like “To balanz-out-an overly acidic pizza”. Similar examples of connecting consecutive words in the sentence include “add a” and “pinch of”, both follow the same principle as above, and could be pronounced as “add-a” and “pinch-of”. “some people add-a tiny pinch-of baking soda”.

Our second tip is the word “acidic”. Acidic comes from the noun “acid”, but different from its origin, the stress of "acidic" should be on the “ci” sound in the middle, instead of on the “a” sound like its noun cousin. So it should be “a’ci’dic”, not “‘a’cidic”. Acidic. Acidic.

Our third tip is the word “neutralize”. Neutralize has four syllables, and the stress should be put on the initial “neu” sound, pronounced just as the adjective N E W, “new”. Neutralize. Neutralize.

Now with the tips sorted, let’s get to the vocabulary.

Vocabulary:

balance (v.) KK[ˋbæləns] IPA[/ˈbæl.əns/]
to be in a position where you will stand without falling to either side, or to put something in this position
(使)平衡
I will only have some salads for lunch today to balance out the pizzas I ate last night.
為了平衡昨晚吃的披薩,我今天午餐吃點沙拉就好。

acidic (adj.) KK[əˋsɪdɪk] IPA[/əˈsɪd.ɪk/]
containing acid
酸性的
The highly acidic sewage that the factory discharged into the river had led native species in it to extinction.
那家工廠排放到河水中的強酸廢水導致河中的當地物種滅絕了。

neutralize (v.) KK[ˋnjutrəl͵aɪz] IPA[/ˈnjuː.trə.laɪz/]
to stop something from having an effect
抵消,使失效
to neutralize an acid/odor
中和酸/祛味
The recently passed act is considered to be one of the efforts the government is taking on to neutralize organized criminal activities.
最近剛通過的法案被認為是政府為了消除組織犯罪活動所做的努力之一。

Outro:

So that wraps up for today’s episode!

How often do you order a pizza? What are your favorite toppings? As a proud Taiwanese, I’ve seen local pizza shops experimenting with all kinds of toppings. Peking duck, pork blood cake, stinky tofu, boba milk tea, you name it, and we probably have put it on our pizza. It almost seems like that as something is edible and could stick on pizza dough, we will put it on there as a topping. Sorry to my Italian friends, but I think we really live on the aforementioned "pizza is just an edible plate" concept to an extreme.

Jokes aside, one thing is certain: one of the reasons makes pizza such a popular food is that you can have anything you like on it. Sure, some of them are more controversial than others, such as pineapple and basically any kind of fruit other than tomato (What? You say that tomatoes are vegetables, not fruit? Well, let’s save this argument for another day.), but the basic principle to have an oven-baked, cheese-loaded flatbread with toppings of choice should be the common definition of what a pizza should be like. And as pizza chains spread around the world, they have been developing distinct toppings and flavors tailored to local tastes. Speaking of pizzas from all around the world, check out our other video about different pizza toppings Domino’s have for different countries! I will leave a link in the comments below. It will definitely blow your mind.

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with putting whatever toppings you like on a pizza, as long as you don’t force-feed others with it. Pizza should be enjoyed in a relaxed mood, and conflicts just don’t belong to this smile-inducing dish. So, enjoy yourself with that durian-mint-stinky tofu-duck blood-pepperoni-blue cheese pizza you have the pizzeria custom-made for you! Just, don’t invite me to your dinner.

This is Jeff Chiao from VoiceTube. Hope y’all have a good one! Until next time, goodbye.

【心得】披薩的主體就是餅皮和起司。
