What’s up, VoiceTubers? Leila here. If someone is poor and doesn’t have any way of earning money, is giving them money the best way to help them? Well, giving aid and charity is the way it’s always been done, so, yeah, it must be right, right? In today’s video, Sangu Delle explains that this model for helping Africa doesn’t work. In his TED talk, he says he has a better idea--and it’s not the idea that people usually think of. Check out today’s video if you haven’t already and you’ll see what I mean. His idea wasn’t what I expected.

There’s this saying in America that "insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results". It’s not actually the definition of insanity, but it is a useful reminder that it’s pretty silly to just do the same thing that clearly doesn’t work again and again, all the while expecting it to magically work THIS time.

It reminds me of this one time a friend was helping me move a TV. We had to carry this TV down a set of stairs, around the corner into a room. It was really cramped and it took a little trial and error to figure out how to move this oddly shaped object through this narrow space.

So, we hit the TV against the wall, and I told my friend, “Hey! Stop!”
“What happened?”
“We just hit the wall. Back up. We need to do this differently.”
“Okay.”
So, my friend backs up but then tries again the exact same way. Guess what happened? We hit the TV against the wall.
“Dude! You did it again!”
“Oh, right. Uh, okay, maybe if we lift it up like this.”

We finally got the TV moved into the new room and it was fine--the dent in the TV and the wall weren’t that bad--but I don’t ask that friend to help me move anymore.
