a. make sth. up [mek ... ʌp] (v.) 捏造
-> This is a made-up story.
這是一個捏造出來的故事。

b. invent [ɪnˋvɛnt] (v.) 捏造；虛構
-> You invented that story just to sound cool, didn’t you?
你捏造這個故事只是為了耍酷，對吧？

c. fabricate [ˋfæbrɪ͵ket] (v.) 偽造；杜撰
-> These are fabricated events.
這些是杜撰出來的事情。

a. anniversary [͵ænəˋvɝsərɪ] (n.) 週年紀念
-> Oh my god! My husband forgot our anniversary.
天阿！我老公忘了我們的結婚紀念日。

3.
a. hand [hænd] (v.) 面交；傳遞
-> Can you hand me that screwdriver?
可以拿給我那個螺絲起子嗎？

b. give [gɪv] (v.) 給
* 比較直接，相比之下有一點點不禮貌的感覺，不過日常使用沒關係
-> Can you give me that bottle?
可以給我那個瓶子嗎？

c. pass [pæs] (v.) 傳遞
* 常用於用餐時
-> Hey, can you pass me the salt?
嘿，可以給我鹽巴罐嗎？

d. toss [tɔs] (v.) 丟；拋
* 比較隨意的用法，可用在朋友之間
-> Can you toss me that T-shirt?
可以把那件T恤丟給我嗎？

1-a. to make something up
- To come up with it on your own.
- This was something that you thought of.
- Something isn’t real.
This is a made-up story. (This story is not real; it’s made up.)

1-b. invent
- invention: something is invented.
(Technology, new idea, concept, a model or a theory can be invented.)
- to make something up
You invented that story just to sound cool, didn’t you?

1-c. fabricate
- to create something, is often used to mean to make up or to invent.
(root word: fabric – material, something that is physical)
These are fabricated events. (These events are not real. They were fabricated; they were invented.)

2. anniversary
- a particular day in the years that follow an event.
Your anniversary with your girlfriend: You got together on March 5th last year. So that means March 5th this year would be your one-year anniversary.
Oh, my god. My husband forgot my/our (wedding) anniversary. (Her husband forgot that day is one year/ two years/ three years after the day that they got married.)
- also refers to companies, other events or activities, even like coffee chains. They might do something like their fiftieth anniversary; they might have a discount, or a limited edition product.

3-a. to hand (as a verb form)
- to give something to someone with your hand
Can you hand me that screwdriver? (There is a screwdriver beside you and I want you to give it to me, to bring it over here.)
The only anniversary I care about is the one where you're handing me a $20. (You’re giving him a $20; you’re giving him 20 dollars, could be as a bribe or a tip.)

3-b. give (a more general word, a little less polite, a little more direct, depending on the situation or the person; a little bit more like an order. But it is okay; it’s not rude.)
Can you give me that screwdriver/that bottle?
* to hand something is little more specific and politer.

3-c. pass
(here it doesn’t mean to pass a test or to pass something on the road)
- to give something, to hand something (much more polite/common/natural/native, when eating with English speakers)
Can you pass me the salt/ the wine? (At the table when you are eating dinner, if you need the salt or the wine…)

3-d. toss
- to give something or to transfer something to someone else (much more casual, not impolite, often used with friends)
Hey, man, can you toss me the TV remote/that T-shirt/a cat? (when you’re sitting on the couch…) ** Don’t throw your cats!!
- also implies that they can throw it, if they want to. But it still sounds less exaggerated than throw. Throw sounds like you are playing a sport or something. You want them to throw it really far. For ‘toss’, it is just pretty close, a few meters away.)
