I'm going to teach you something called "double negatives". 哈囉,歡迎收看這門課。我將會教大家一些關於「雙重否定」的概念 Now, maybe you don't use double negatives, which is cool and good and amazing, and you 也許你並未使用雙重否定,那很值得讚賞, don't want to use double negatives. So, I'm going to tell you first of all what double 也或許你也不想使用雙重否定。因此,首先我要先介紹甚麼叫做雙重否定 negatives are. Double negatives mean you have one sentence with two words that are both 雙重否定指的是一個句子中同時出現兩個否定詞 negative words. For example: 例如說 "I don't have nothing." So, "don't" and "nothing" are both 「I don't have nothing」,其中「don't」和「nothing」 negative words. So, this might have something to do with math, which I'm not good at. If 皆為否定詞。這個狀況可以用數學上的概念來解釋,雖然我不擅長數學 you don't have nothing, actually you have something. I'm not too sure how that works 假若你說「you don't have nothing」,但實際上卻是有的。我不確定那想要表達甚麼樣的意思 out, but you don't want to use double negatives because two negatives make a positive. 但是你不會想使用雙重否定的,因為負負得正 So, we hear double negatives all the time. "I can't get no satisfaction..." Can't get 我們經常聽到雙重否定的用法,好比說「I can't get no satisfaction...」 no...? Can't... "Can't get no" is a double negative. So, 「Can't get no」... 前方是「Can't...」,因此「Can't get no」即是雙重否定的用法 whoever sang this song, Mick Jagger, 不管唱這首歌的人是誰,米克傑格 terrible grammar. What are you...? What are you teaching us, here? Good old lips. 文法很糟。你這.... 你在教壞我們,饒舌大師 So, one thing I'm going to do is you have to be very, very, very careful about certain 我要請大家非常非常謹慎注意某些英文字詞 words in English, like this word: "ain't". I hate this word. As soon as someone says 例如這個用字「ain't」。我痛恨這個字,要是有人和我說 to me: "I ain't got nothing." I'm not talking to that person probably again. If you use 「I ain't got nothing」。我可能會再也不想和那個人講話 the word "ain't", it just makes you seem very uneducated. People who say these words, they 使用「ain't」這個字只會讓你給人沒受過教育的感覺。說話會用這類字詞的人 sound stupid. Maybe your favourite rapper uses it a lot. Are they stupid? Hmm. So, it's 聽起來水準就不高。也許你最愛的饒舌歌手經常使用,那難道他們笨嗎? cool if they do it, but be careful you don't because you don't want to sound stupid. So, 雖然他們用起來感覺很酷,不過請你千萬不要用,因為那會讓人感覺你很笨 I'm going to give you the examples. Now, the ones in black are bad, don't use them. The 我在這邊提供大家一些範例。黑板上用黑色筆寫的是不好的句子,請不要用 red pen is the right pen. 用紅筆標註的部分才是對的 So, if we look at the first example: "He ain't no teacher." He ain't no teacher, G, yo. We 讓我們看一下第一則範例:「He ain't no teacher」。He ain't no teacher .... 天啊! can't say: "ain't". "Ain't" is not even a word in English. If you look in the dictionary, 我們不能說「ain't」,因為英文裡根本沒有「ain't」這個字,大家可以查字典求證 it's not there. It's really, really, really, really slang, and it's bad. So, "ain't", I 字典查不到的,因為這是徹頭徹尾的俚語,而且很不好。 want you to take this word out of your head, and I want you to say: "He isn't". You've 因此我希望大家忘了這個字,使用「He isn't」。大家先前已有學過這個句型 learned this before, you used the verb "to be", so you're going to say: "He isn't the teacher." 使用「to be」,所以你會說「He isn't the teacher」 He ain't no teacher, yo. Yeah, you ain't no teacher either. I'm the teacher, 「He ain't no teacher, yo」,沒錯,你不是老師,我才是老師 and you have to say: "He isn't a teacher." 你必須說「He isn't a teacher」 Next one: "She ain't got no class." [Laughs] Which is true. Now, "class" means refinement 接著下一個例子:「She ain't got no class」。[笑聲] 這是真的發生的狀況。「class」指的是優雅 or the way you were brought up. So, if you ain't got no class, your momma didn't raise 或是你被帶大的方式。所以,如果你「ain't got no class」,那表示妳的老媽沒有把你教好 you right. This means that you were basically were not educated well. We have to say: 這也代表基本上你沒有受到良好教育。我們應該說: "She has no class." Okay? 「She has no class」,好嗎? So, the difference is that she... We can't use "ain't", we have 這裡的差別在於我們不能使用「ain't」,而是必須使用「has no」 to use "has no". When we use "teacher", we have to use an adjective. We have to use "to be". 當我們主詞是「teacher」時,應該要用形容詞,應該要用「to be」 Sorry. When we say "teacher", we have to use the verb "to be", but when we say "got", 很抱歉,當主詞是「teacher」時,必須使用「to be」這個動詞,但當我們說「got」時 we have to use "has", because this is a noun. Okay? If it's a job, we use "to be", and if 必須使用「has」,因為這是名詞,好嗎? 若主詞是 job,因為是名詞 it's a noun, we use "has". If it was "I", we would say "have". So you can check out 所以我們要使用「has」。若主詞是「I」,則會使用「have」。 a lesson that I've done before between "had", "have", and "has". 大家可以參考我先前的課,介紹關於「had」、「have」和「has」 "I ain't been nowhere." I ain't been nowhere. Hmm. Well, no. You have to say: 「I ain't been nowhere」...I ain't been nowhere:恩 不對,你必須說: "I haven't been anywhere." 「I haven't been anywhere」 So, it's kind of confusing in English when we use "any". So, I'm going 「any」在英文中有時很令人混亂。我將在課程的這個部分教導大家 to teach you in this part of the lesson when to use "any". It's easy once you get it. So, 何時該使用「any」,一旦抓到要訣就很容易懂了。 you don't want to say: "I ain't been nowhere." You... You have to say: "I haven't been anywhere." 請不要說:「I ain't been nowhere」.....而是說「I haven't been anywhere」 So, "any"... Once you get this, it's going to be easy for you. We use "any" only if your 「any」... 一旦搞清楚用法了,你會很輕鬆。 sentence is negative or if you are asking a question. For example: 我們只會在當句子為否定句或問句時使用「any」,例如 "Do you have any pizza?" 「Do you have any pizza?」 Now, I'm not going to say: "I ain't got no pizza." 這時候我不會說:「I ain't got no pizza」 I'm going to say: "I don't have any pizza." 而是會說:「I don't have any pizza」 Okay? You can also say: "I don't have anything." You can't say: 各位了解了嗎? 你也可以說:「I don't have anything」,但是不能說 "I don't have nothing." So, we have to change "nothing" to "anything", because "any", we have to use 「I don't have nothing」。我們必須將此處的「nothing」改為「anything」 with our negative sentence. 因為「any」必須搭配否定句使用 "I don't know no one or nobody." They're the same. You have to say: "I don't know anyone." 「I don't know no one or nobody」。這句也是相同的意思 Because we have "don't", we can... We have to use "anyone". You can say: "I do know someone", 你應該說:「I don't know anyone」,因為若使用「don't」,則必須使用「anyone」 but that's a positive and we're good. 你可以說:「I do know someone」,不過這就是肯定句了,沒甚麼問題 "I don't want to go nowhere." That means you want to go somewhere. So, you have to say: 「I don't want to go nowhere」,這句話表示你想要前往某處。你應該說: "I don't want to go anywhere." So, if it's a question or if it's a negative sentence, 「I don't want to go anywhere」。只要當我們遇到問句或是否定句時 all we're going to do is change the "no" to "any", so this cancels out the double negative. 只要將「no」改成「any」,就可以避免雙重否定的情形發生了 When we use it as a question, we would say: "Do you have any...?" For example: 在問句中使用時,我們會說:「Do you have any...?」。例如: "Do you have any money?" 「Do you have any money?」 No, you don't have any money. Okay. 不,我身上一毛錢都沒有,其他例子還有就是例如 Do you have any children? Do you have anything to give me? Okay? 「Do you have any children?」、「Do you have anything to give me?」等 So: "I can't get no", mm-mm. We have to say: "I can't get any satisfaction." Mick Jagger, 所以回過頭來看「I can't get no」這個句子,應要說「I can't get any satisfaction」,米克傑格 you better watch yourself, big lips, because Ronnie's coming to get ya. Don't be bad, 你最好注意一點,否則萊妮會來找你。別做壞事 don't use double negatives, it ain't right. 請大家不要使用雙重否定句,這是錯誤用法 It's not right. Good bye. 是不對的唷。再會
