Intro:
Hi guys! This is Jenny. Welcome back to VoiceTube! Today, we are going to talk about money, and how it’s viewed and managed in relationships. Would you consider yourself as a spender or a saver when it comes to handling your money? Some people like to live comfortably regardless of how much money they have saved in the bank. They will buy nice clothes and gadgets for themselves and will disregard their overall financial situation. Other people like to be more cautious with their money, and save it for the future, sometimes in a way that might also affect their comfort and their family’s comfort. What do you think might happen when two people with different spending personalities meet and fall in love, and then decide to spend their lives together? Quite a difficult situation I would say. That’s why it’s important to be open and honest about financial views with your other half, so that there will not be any misunderstandings down the road.
In today’s episode, Neil and Alice discuss this topic, have a listen and see what they have to say!

But before you do that, let’s take a look at today’s featured sentence.

Featured sentence:
"Now, it seems important that couples are honest about their finances because it can have an impact on their future financial options together."

Pronunciation tips:

Vocabularies:

Finance (n.) KK[faɪˋnæns] IPA[/ˈfaɪ.næns/]
(the management of) a supply of money

Example:
The project will only go ahead if the company can raise the necessary finance.

Impact (n.) KK[ɪmˋpækt] IPA[/ˈɪm.pækt/]
the force or action of one object hitting another

Example:
The impact of the car crash left her with minor internal injuries.

Option (n.) KK[ˋɑpʃən] IPA[/ˈɒp.ʃən/]
one thing that can be chosen from a set of possibilities, or the freedom to make a choice

Example:
I like coming to this food court because there are so many options to choose from.

Outro:
So, as we can see, honesty and openness are very important when it comes to the way we handle finances with our partners. A big part of the trust that every relationship is built on, is being able to share financial situations and beliefs. It is hard to build a future together as a couple or a family when there is uncertainty about financial goals. We really need to know each other's ideas and opinions when it comes to handling money.
So, I hope you’ve learned something new from this week’s episode, until next time - take care!

#I’m a saver comparatively.
Now, it seems important that couples(/ˈkʌp.əl/夫妻) are honest(坦承的) about their finances(/faɪˈnæns/財務) because it can have an impact(/ˈɪm.pækt/巨大影響n.) on their future(將來的) financial(/faɪˈnæn.ʃəl/財務上的) options(/ˈɑːp.ʃən/選擇權) together.
