舉手發問!#5:35 “London, awashed with the golden burn of sunset.” awash 是形容詞,為什麼可以加ed?

If there’s a will, there’s a way.
0:24 I’m afraid even after two decades and a few years, I’m still not {well-versed([vɝst]a.精通的) in the art} of saying “no”, but I know it’s a skill worth developing for the sake(n.利益) of living an easier life. I’ve learnt {this the} hard way and I’d like not to repeat tragedy(n. It’s not just about saying no to others, either(也不是), it’s also saying no to yourself sometimes whenever you’re {tempted(a.想要做的)} to do something you know you shouldn’t be doing, or when you’re tempted not to do something when you know you should be doing it. So, self-discipline(自律), basically.
If you’ve already mastered this, the art of saying no, then mazal tov([ˈmazəl tɔv]), you’re a legend(n. If not, we’ll get through this together. And by the way, mazal tov is a Jewish([ˋdʒuɪʃ]a.猶太人的) phrase that means “good luck, congratulations, or good job.” And it’s used pretty often in everyday speech. Okay, so... but first let’s look at how we usually fall into the trap(n.陷阱) of saying yes, and it’s also our sentence of the day: We also all have this other brain; this other mindset that thinks about long-term consequences, remembers what our big values are, takes a kind of expansive view on our lives and our choices.

1. mindset [ˈmaɪnd.set] (n.)
Having the right mindset can help ease([iz]v.減輕) friction [ˋfrɪkʃən]n.摩擦,不和) in our life.

“Mindset, the new psychology of success” by Carol Dweck

Jade’s mother warns her of the consequences of staying out pass curfew([ˋkɝfju]n.
Jade

2.2 consequently [ˋkɑnsə͵kwɛntlɪ] adv.
+ I spent most of my money in the first week and consequently had very little to eat by the end of the holiday.

3.1 expansive [ɪkˈspæn.sɪv] (adj.)
Looking out the window of the plane, Oscar caught an expansive view: London, {?awashed([əˋwɑʃ]a.大量的)}
with the golden burn of sunset.

By the time I discovered the problem, the floor was awash.

awash (a.)
* awash with something
The city is awash with drugs and the police are powerless to do anything about it.

3.2 expand [ɪkˋspænd] v.
+The air in the balloon expands when heated.

3.3 expensive [ɪkˋspɛnsɪv] adj.

Our time is about up for today, before we go, a song popped in my head for today’s theme and that’s “No.” by Megan Trainor. This’s the ultimate song for turning people down(拒絕) as far as I know. After a few repeats, you’ll think you’re untouchable. With that mindset, you’d feel pretty good going into any situation. At least, I hope {it’ll} do the trick, if not, you know what they say, practice makes progress. {Perfection} is overrated, as I tend to remind myself everything is a {work-in-progress.} For me, striving(n.努力) for “better” is more doable(a.可行的) than striving for the “best.”
Sorry for going off on a tangent([ˋtændʒənt]n.離題), let’s end this on one last note: remember you should be the one in control of your decisions and time, no one else. Think clearly before giving an “yes” and give yourself permission to say no. So, it’s easier for both of you and others.
And finally, don’t forget to leave your recordings down below and comment on situations where you {wished you said} “no” instead of a “yes”. It could be that extra {pint([paɪnt]n.容量單位) of ice cream} you should’ve said no to because of you’re cutting down {on your fat intake.} Okay, be seeing you.

Introduction
What’s up, VoiceTube fam!

I’m afraid even after two decades and a few years, I am still not well-versed in the art of saying ‘no’. But I know it’s a skill worth developing for the sake of living an easier life - I’ve learned this the hard way, and I’d like not to repeat tragedy.

It’s not just about saying no to others, either. It’s also saying no to yourself sometimes whenever you’re tempted to do something you know you shouldn’t be doing or when you’re tempted not to do something when you know you should be doing it. Self-discipline, basically.

If you’ve already mastered this, mazel tov. You’re a legend. Btw, mazel tov is a Jewish phrase that means congrats or good luck, and it’s used pretty often in everyday speech. If not, we’ll get through this together.

But first, let’s look at how we usually fall into the trap of saying ‘yes’:

Sentence
We also all have this other brain; this other mindset that thinks about long-term consequences; remembers what our big values are; takes a kind of expansive view on our lives and our choices.

Outro
And our time’s about up for today! Before we go, a song popped in my head for today’s theme and that’s:

No - Meghan Trainor
It’s the ultimate song for turning people down, as far as I know. After a few repeats, you’ll think you’re untouchable, and with that mindset you’d feel pretty good going in. At least, I hope it’ll do the trick. If not, you know what they say: practice makes...progress. Perfection is overrated. As I tend to remind myself, everything is a work-in-progress, for me, striving for ‘better’ is more doable than striving for ‘best’.

Sorry for going off on a tangent, let’s end this on one last note: Remember, you should be the one in control of your decisions and time, no one else. Think clearly before giving a ‘yes’ and give yourself permission to say ‘no’ so it’s easier for both you and others.

And finally, don’t forget to leave your recordings down below and comment on situations where you wished you said ‘no’ instead of a ‘yes’. It could be that extra pint of ice cream you should’ve said no to because you’re cutting down on your fat intake, hehe. Be seeing ya!
