Hello, VoiceTubers! This is Annie. Welcome to today’s pronunciation challenge. Today’s video explains the reasons why we feel awkward. Feeling awkward means you are uncomfortable, embarrassed and self-conscious in a situation. Have you ever felt awkward? What kind of situation makes you feel that? Well, let’s take a look at today’s sentence which mentions an awkward moment that you may face.

1. awkward
awkward 為形容詞，意思是「尷尬的，侷促不安的」，例如你可以說 awkward silence (尷尬的沈默，也就是「冷場」的意思)、awkward situation (尷尬的情況)。

Awkward is an adjective referring to ‘making you feel embarrassed so that you are not sure what to do or say’.

Sally feels awkward whenever she’s with people she’s not familiar with.
每當 Sally 跟她不熟的人待在一起時，她都會感到尷尬。

I always feel awkward when I am with strangers. Do you guys have the same feelings with me?

2. explicit
explicit 為形容詞，在影片中的意思是「露骨的，赤裸的」，尤其是指暴力或性，舉例來說，

Explicit is an adjective which means ‘describing or showing something, especially sexual activity, with a lot of detail’.

Kids can’t watch this movie because there are too many explicit scenes.
小朋友不可以看這部電影，因為裡面有許多裸露畫面。

explicit 的另一個意思為「明確的，清楚的」，相似詞為 exact，以 ex- 為字首的單字大多都有「向外」的意思，因此 explicit 有「向外展現」的意思，補充一下 explicit 的相反詞為 implicit，字首為 im- 的字有「否定」的意思，所以 implicit 的意思為 「不明說的，含蓄的」。

The other meaning of the word “explicit” is ‘expressed in a way that is very clear and direct’. The synonym of it is “exact” and its opposite is “implicit”.

Though she gave me explicit directions about where to go, I still got lost.
即使她告訴我明確的方向了，我還是迷路了。

3. canoodle
canoodle 為動詞，意思是「擁吻，愛撫」，如果你在字典裡查這個字，上面會寫「old-fashioned」，沒錯，這個字有點過時了啦！但還是可以學一下XD 來看看例句吧！

Canoodle is a verb. If two people canoodle, it means that they kiss and hold each other in a sexual way. This word is old-fashioned but I think it’s still an interesting word that we can learn!

The couple sitting on the bench are canoodling without caring if they are in public.
