[Introduction] Hey wassup, VoiceTube friends! First order of business:
Let’s talk about some of your comments for the last two weeks - there have been people saying that bad habits die hard and that COVID-19 is making them depressed and I totally get it. Here’s me sending out some good vibes, we’re gonna pull through this so hang in there everyone! Stay safe!
A big thank you to everyone who participated in our comment section, your contributions are highly appreciated and y’all did a great job with the pronunciation challenge! So, give yourself a pat on the back and keep up the good work!
Okay, we’re now going to talk about how to deal with our nerves. Yes, our nerves act up from time to time, making our emotions and energy fray, usually at times where the stakes are high: exams, interviews, visiting your partner’s family, making a public speech, you name it. There are a ton of songs that surround this topic, too, so you know it’s an universal issue (I’ll be mentioning some of these songs so make sure to stick around till the end!).
I know I get nervous when I’m around crowds. It’s called social anxiety, I believe. A good thing is that there are resources out there to help us understand our nerves and how to cope with it better. This video I came across looks at how athletes deal with high-pressure situations, which brings us to our sentence of the day:
[Sentence] By simply imagining themselves as focused, tough and having positive thoughts prior to competition, athletes are able to improve performance and overcome nerves.
prior adj.
Example: The aircraft was examined prior to taking off to ensure safety measures were in place.
overcome v.
Example: To overcome the obstacles that come your way in life, you must maintain a can-do attitude.
nerves n.
Example: Vincent could feel his nerves in his gut as he stepped onto the stage.
nervous system n. 神經系統 the system of nerves and nerve centers in an animal or human, including the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and ganglia.
[Outro] That’s it for today, peeps! As promised, recommendations for today are: Anxiety (single) - Julia Michaels This one has one of the most relatable lyrics I’ve ever heard. You’ll understand once you give it a listen.
Nervous System (album) - Julia Michaels I hope you still remember what your nervous system means, because you’re in for a ride with this debut album, also by Julia Michaels. Yes, you’re getting more of her awesomeness.
Nervous - Shawn Mendes This one’s about crushes. It’s a cute one, trust me.
Hopefully, the playful flair of some of these songs would get you through tough times. And better yet, I hope a few of them are able to give you a little consolidation in the notion that, you know, you’re not alone and it’s completely normal to be nervous from time to time.
By creating a positive mindset, managing nerves might become just a tad bit easier. Check out the video for more deets on how it’s done! Let me know down below if you’ve got any tricks when it comes to dealing with your nerves and don’t remember to leave your recordings, too. As always, look out for the shoutout next time! Have a good one!
