Taking note and recording in the Metro station.
This video interviewed a few young adults and talked to them about their parents who are not able to speak English very well, so their parents speak broken English. And these young adults look back at their childhood as they were growing up, and talk about how this affected them. So some of difficulties that came out. It was a really moving video actually. I wasn’t expected it to be so emotional and touching.
I was shocked to hear about the horrific shooting.
Horror: A strong feeling of fear, dread or shock.
There was a look of horror in her eyes(她眼裡有ㄧ絲恐懼).
Her outfit is horrendous(穿著可怕的).
The book has been translated into dozens of languages.
I’m not sure what the English translation of the word would be.我不確定這個字的英翻是什麼。
Lose it: to start being unable to control your emotion. To suddenly start to shout or cry
or laugh.
When I found out my dog had passed away, I lost it/lost control of my emotion.
“I lost it “could also describe you laugh uncontrollably when you see something funny.
He really lost his cool(失去理智、冷靜)/temper/didn’t remain calm when the store person insulted him.
I used to be really good at backing, but I think I lost my touch(失去從前擅常的事).

1.1 horrific [hɔˋrɪfɪk] (adj.) 令人恐懼的;駭人的
it’s pretty similar to the word horrible. So it’s describing something really bad or something calls it shock.
I was shocked to hear about the horrific shooting.
So you can describe a shooting as horrific.
1.2 horror [ˋhɔrɚ] (n.) 恐怖
Horror is a strong feeling of fear or dread or shock
There was a look of horror in her eyes.
And horror can also be something that calls it fear.
So you might have heard of horror movies before.
Horror movies call fear that calls horror and that’s why they are called horror movies.
1.3 horrendous [hɔˋrɛndəs] (adj.)可怕的;驚人的
Horrendous describes something that is really bad or unpleasant. It’s very similar to the word horrible.
The criminal committed horrendous crimes.
Horrendous is also sometimes used in a later sentence; it doesn’t always have to be about serious things.
Her outfit is horrendous.
That would be a way just to exaggerate by using this more serious word about a later topic. It’s a way to exaggerate or to emphasize whatever you think.
2.1 translate [trænsˋlet] (v.) 翻譯
It means to turn something from one language into another.
The book has been translated into dozens of languages.
2.2 translation [trænsˋleʃən] (n.) 翻譯;譯文;譯本
Translation is basically words have been translated
I’m not sure what the English translation of that word would be.
2.3 translator [trænsˋletɚ] (n.) 譯者
It is someone that translates things.
Martha works as a translator that means that her profession is translating things
3.1 lose it (phr.) 失去理智
To stop being able to control your emotion. So to lose control of your emotions and suddenly to start to shut or cry or laugh.
When I found out that my dag had passed away, I lost it.
So in this case, when we said ‘I lost it’, it probably means that I started to cry.
So I lost control my emotions and because something sad happened, I probably started to cry.
When he started dancing like that, I lost it.
In this case, I’m probably talking about people dancing may be doing some kind of funny
So when I said ‘I lost it’, it probably meant I started laughing uncontrolled appropriately.
Maybe it wasn’t appropriate to laugh but I couldn’t help it, it was so funny. I lost it
3.2 lose one's cool (phr.) 沈不住氣
It means you don’t stay calm; you don’t stay cool, you kind of get angry or nervous or something like that.
He really lost his cool when the store person insulted him.
He did not remain calm, he was kind of way crazy, lost his temper, he got angry and that’s why we said he lost his cool.
3.3 lose one's touch (phr.) 喪失以前的能力等
If you lose your touch, you can no longer do something as well as you could before.
I used to be really good at baking but I think I’ve lost my touch.
