I don't know who started this ridiculous rumor,

The United States of America is, in fact, a constitutional republic.

And a constitutional republic is, in fact, a form of a democracy.

Don't worry, I'm going to break it down for you, because I know you don't believe me at this point,

Now, a constitutional republic is a form of democracy in which citizens elect a representative to go to the government to vote and represent them on their behalf.

But these representatives are bound by something fundamental, something written.

The constitution protects individual citizens from the abusive nature of governmental overreach.

Specifically, the constitution's there to protect minority rights.

The first aspect of a constitutional republic is representative governance.

Citizens elect representatives to go make the law for them.

I think what you're getting confused with is you think that democracy has to be a direct democracy.

But don't worry, we wouldn't let some of you vote on tariffs because you still don't understand what they are.

Second aspect: constitutional limitations.

The government cannot make law that contributes that goes against the constitution of the United States.

The constitution is the fundamental democratic principle.

It's the thing protecting you from government overreach.

The constitution is the founding principle of your democracy.

In a democracy, the legal framework of that nation takes precedent over power and whim of elected officials and the abuse of the majority.

The majority can't do whatever they want to do whenever they want to do it.

That's the point of a constitution, and that's the thing that guy down there is trying to shred.

Three branches of government, all separate but equal.

That is the foundation of democratic principles.

It's the idea that no one branch can ever rise to a level of power to negate the other two.

That's why all these executive orders make absolutely no sense.

He is trying to negate the other two branches, thus undermining your democracy.

Maybe if he convinces you you guys aren't a democracy, you would just not even notice when he's undermining it and overriding your power.

The constitution is there to protect individual rights, to stop the tyranny of the majority from usurping their rights and overrunning everything that they stand for.

All of these things go into building a democracy.

All of these components work together to ensure that your voice is heard, that your rights are protected,

and the majority can't rally together and create some sort of mob rule.

and it will not allow for mob rule to override individual rights and do whatever they see fit.

That's what somebody is trying to do right now in the United States.

And every time you all say, "We don't live in a democracy," you're all but ensuring it.
