We tasted a bunch of Malaysian food that was sent last week, but now I wanted to just, I don't know, we thought it'd be fun to actually make a thing from the box.

This is sambal rojak, and basically it's like a fruit salad dressing, and really, really popular in Malaysia and other Asian countries, I'm sure.

And it's kind of like salty, it's sweet, it's spicy, it's a little bit fishy, and it goes all over fruit and vegetables.

I'm going to peel some apples, and you know, the kind of fruit that they use, it's a mixture, so it'd be lots of hard fruits, apples, pears, even radishes go in there, they're kind of like bland, you can have lots of bland fruits, jicama, guava even, or you know, like raw mango, not raw mango, green mangoes.

So anything like that can go in, because the dressing's actually really quite strong, so plain fruits, mainly like those ones, are really tasty.

Now I've got some strawberries here as well, so...

It's not traditional, but they were in my fridge, and I thought, hey, let's give it a go.

How often do you get to go back to Malaysia?

Well, I was there actually really recently, so Malaysian Airlines flew me out there for a food blogger's trip, and I went with five of the top, or six of the top UK food bloggers, and we went back to my hometown, my family's hometown, in Kuching, Sarawak, and we basically filmed loads of food and travel stuff there.

So obviously this is great because it's already made, which is fantastic, and basically it's made up from tamarind paste, which is why it's so dark, and then it's also got chili in there, so it's got chili paste, and it's got belacan, which is a fishy, it's like a shrimp paste, basically.

Really, really popular in Malaysia, and it is quite stinky, but it's delicious.

The idea of fishy stuff with fruit is bizarre.

I mean, it wasn't my first choice when I was growing up, but now I'm a bit more used to it.

I mean, like belacan in curries and stir fries, and I use it a lot.

But on the fruit, it does take a little bit more time to get used to, I think.

When you go to the markets out there, like the amount of fish or dried fish, it's like a whole counter, like as big as this, full of like little baskets of all these different little dried fishies.

And you just do all kinds of different stuff with them?

Chopped peanuts are used a lot in either desserts out in Malaysia.
