- We're hearing ideas that not only align with ours, but expand ours. Kind of like when you're in a really deep conversation with someone and you lose all track of time and space, you feel that kind of flow. So in this case, I felt kind of a big kick in the stomach of meaning here, as I kind of heard this definition of meaning. I was sitting outside at a cafe in central Lisbon and it was cold and rainy and I wasn't all too comfortable. And I was kind of finding the conversation at first a little bit rambly, but then when I heard this point in the podcast, everything stopped. Things for me clicked. This idea aligns for me with the sensitivity, the people's different lenses, which I've been thinking a lot about. It aligns with what the book was saying and helped me understand the book better. And it kind of answers why I feel that tingle, why I felt more inclined to strongly agree with appreciating sunsets. This felt meaningful to me. It gave me a tingle in the dingle. And while your dingle might not tingle with the same kind of jingle, it doesn't make it any less meaningful to me. I wasn't knocked into uncertainty. I saw new potentiality open up with this idea and I started connecting different ideas that I couldn't piece together, like some of the works of David Deutsch that I can't really fully articulate yet, but I hope I can one day. But I feel like I've got a leg to stand on and it felt pretty profound to me. The question that follows is whether your sense of meaning comes from what your nervous system has been configured to, and your nervous system has been configured based on many different deprivations. Do people find meaning in working towards a social level of eradicating what they suffer from the most?
