What’s up, VoiceTubers? Leila here. Are you a snorer? Or are you the one who is bothered nightly by someone else’s snoring? Either way, we’ve all been there. Snoring can get so bad that people in a romantic relationship might need to sleep in separate bedrooms. People have invented all kinds of ways to cure or at least alleviate snoring, and today’s video mentions some of the crazier ones that people have thought up, but it also mentions some legitimate ways that snoring can be addressed–especially if the condition is so bad that it’s hurting the snorer’s sleep health, not just those who happen to be sleeping nearby. Check out today’s video if you haven’t already. It could help you or someone you know.

In the meantime, let’s move on to Sentence of the Day:

A snore's quality can range from a gentle mew to a stuttering chainsaw—but all snores originate from the respiratory tract, which is lined with soft tissues.

Pronunciation tips:

Practice saying these words slowly first:
1. Quality
2. Stuttering
3. Chainsaw
4. Originate
5. Respiratory

Linking words:

Vocabulary:

stutter (v.) KK: /ˋstʌtɚ/ IPA: /ˈstʌt̬.ɚ/
to work or happen in a way that is not smooth or regular
i.e. We were driving on the highway when all of a sudden the engine stuttered and shut off entirely.

originate (v.) KK: /əˋrɪdʒə͵net/ IPA: /əˈrɪdʒ.ən.eɪt/
to come from a particular place, time, situation, etc.
i.e. Despite the flavor being called “Hawaiian” pizza, it actually originated in Canada by a man originally from Greece.

tissue (n.) KK: /ˋtɪʃʊ/ IPA: /ˈtɪs.juː/
a group of connected cells in an animal or plant that are similar to each other, have the same purpose, and form the stated part of the animal or plant
i.e. After being stuck in the storm, the mountain climbers lost some tissue on their fingers and toes to frostbite.

I grew up with a snorer, so snoring, in general, seemed normal to me. I didn’t know it could get so bad that the snorer could suffer from oxygen deprivation. Then I found out one of my friends had a CPAP machine, like they mentioned in today’s video. At first, I thought it looked kinda weird, like something you’d see in a hospital, but my friend explained:

“This thing has changed my life! I used to get so tired in the afternoon that I’d literally fall asleep at my desk at work. Couldn’t control it. Coffee didn’t help. I was sleeping for eight to nine hours a night, so I thought I was getting enough sleep, but it turned out I wasn’t getting quality sleep.

“Now I sleep for a solid 7 hours or so and I wake up feeling better than I ever did before without the machine. There’s just one weird thing.”

“What’s that?”

“Because I sleep so deeply and soundly with the machine, I don’t move. At all. It’s like the sleep of the dead.”

As weird as that may sound, if that’s what it takes for a person to improve their sleep health, then, I guess, that’s what it takes. As the saying goes, “different strokes for different folks”.

What about you? Have you ever tried something to stop snoring? Maybe one of those stickers you put across the bridge of your nose? Did it work? Let me know in the comments. And as always, hit that record button when you’re ready with your sentence. Catch ya next time.
