And it is after dedicated time on this plateau that you see progress and possibly even slight regress afterwards, but the big idea is that the new plateau is higher than your previous one.

Welcome back, Pronunciation Challenge listeners! For the new listeners, hi! My name is Hubert Tran and I’m your host for today’s episode. Today, we’ll be diving into the topic of staying motivated! We definitely need this video during these crazy times. As I’m typing this, a lot of countries are going into lockdowns with the new Omicron variant. It’s already been a couple of years since this pandemic started and we’ve all been really resilient so keep it up! Fightin’! So how do you guys stay motivated? Do you get easily discouraged when trying new things and give up? This is the video for you. You know what I do to keep myself going when I go to the gym? I listen to a guy named David Goggins and I must say, he is really motivating. He tells it like it is (which means very straightforward) and sort of makes you stop feeling sorry for yourself. No matter how bad your situation is, nobody really cares so the only person who can help you, is you. Great stuff. Stay tuned for the featured sentence and I’ll tell you about my journey with staying motivated!
Today’s featured sentence: And it is after dedicated time on this plateau that you see progress and possibly even slight regress afterwards, but the big idea is that the new plateau is higher than your previous one.
I’ll say that again.
And it is after dedicated time on this plateau that you see progress and possibly even slight regress afterwards, but the big idea is that the new plateau is higher than your previous one.
Ok, now time for the Pronunciation Tips.
For the first word, we have plateau Two syllables. “PLA” has a short A sound supported by the PL sound. “TEAU” simply sounds like “TOE” like the toes on your feet. Plateau.
Next up, we have Dedicated Four syllables “DE” has a short E sound. “DI” has a short U sound. “CA” simply sounds like the letter K. “TED” sounds like the word “did”. Dedicated.
Lastly, we have Regress Two syllables. “RE” has a short U sound. “GRESS” has the typical GR combination sound like “GREAT” and just combine it with the letter S. “GRESS”. Regress.
Moving onto Vocabulary!
The first word is: 1. Plateau Definition a period during which there are no large changes Used in a sentence, you could say: “I have reached a plateau with my workout progress.”
Next word, 2. Progress Definition movement to an improved or more developed state, or to a forward position Used in a sentence, you could say: “You have made such good progress from the first day you started learning English.”
And lastly, 3. Regress Definition: to return to a previous and less advanced or worse state, condition, or way of behaving Used in a sentence, you could say: “If a parent pushes a child towards any type of learning, the child may rebel and may even actually regress.”
So I try to hit the gym everyday every chance I get. There are days where it gets hard because the weather might be cold, it’s raining heavily, or I’m not feeling great. Those are actually the days you have to go! These are the days you push through because if you let little things deter (deter means to discourage someone from doing something) then you’ll never be consistent with anything. No consistency means reaching your goals will take longer or you might even outright quit. It’s on these bad days that I put on my headphones and I listen to David Goggins (Like I mentioned before) to whip me into shape and get off my lazy bum. You guys should check him out and maybe he can whip you into shape as well! It’s a great way to start your New Year!
Alright guys, that about does it for today’s episode. Hopefully, everyone is staying safe and most importantly, healthy! Follow me on Instagram to keep up with my adventures @hughtran_. Make sure you mention that you’re from the Pronunciation Challenge otherwise I will think you’re a spam bot and I won’t reply. Ok, see everyone again in a few days! Bye.
