If you rely on a quick energy-boosting drink for days like those, or, if we’re being honest, a third or fourth pick-me-up drink, then checking out today’s video might be a good idea.
Alright, there's no one way to guarantee that you're gonna get awesome sleep. But, we do have five easy tips and tricks to help you get on the path towards good sleep hygiene.
What’s up, VoiceTubers? Leila here. Have you ever had one of those mornings when you felt like you just couldn’t turn your brain on? Sure, your eyes might be open and you may even be standing up, but you just can’t think straight about anything. And then you look down and realize you’re wearing two mismatched socks and you forgot to bring back Tim’s Bluetooth speaker that he lent you three weeks ago. Sorry, Tim.
If you rely on a quick energy-boosting drink for days like those, or, if we’re being honest, a third or fourth pick-me-up drink, then checking out today’s video might be a good idea. Quality sleep is directly tied to our physical and mental health. And yeah, I know, just knowing that fact doesn’t necessarily help anyone change, but the video also lays out a handful of tips to focus on, and that brings us to the Sentence of the Day:
Alright, there's no one way to guarantee that you're gonna get awesome sleep. But, we do have five easy tips and tricks to help you get on the path towards good sleep hygiene. 好吧,沒有能夠完全保證可以擁有高品質睡眠的方法。但是,我們能提供五個簡單的小技巧,幫助你培養良好的睡眠健康。
guarantee (n.) KK: /͵gærənˋti/ IPA: /ˌɡer.ənˈtiː/ a promise that something will be done or will happen, especially a written promise by a company to repair or change a product that develops a fault within a particular period of time 保證;(尤指公司保證對產品保修或包退的)保修單,包換單 i.e. The watch doesn’t come with a guarantee, but it does come with a lifetime warranty. 手錶不提供保證書,但提供終身保固。
awesome (adj.) KK: /ˋɔsəm/ IPA: /ˈɑː.səm/ 1. extremely good 很好的;了不起的 It’s pretty common to hear the word ‘awesome’ get tossed around in American English, and while some people might argue that this diminishes the word, ‘awesome’ still has the original meaning of: 2. causing feelings of great admiration, respect, or fear 令人敬畏的;令人驚嘆的;令人驚懼的 i.e. When we came around the bend and saw the forest open up into this awesome mountain vista, we had to stop and look. 當我們繞過彎道,看到開闊的森林在這壯麗的山景中時,我們不得不停下來看看。
hygiene (n.) KK: /ˋhaɪdʒin/ IPA: /ˈhaɪ.dʒiːn/ the degree to which people keep themselves or their environment clean, especially to prevent disease 衛生;衛生情況 i.e. After I cut back on sugar and started keeping better oral hygiene habits, I noticed I’ve had fewer problems with cavities. 在我減少糖分並開始保持更好的口腔衛生習慣後,我注意到我的蛀牙問題減少了。
When I was a kid, I loved sleeping, just not the going to sleep part. I was absolutely convinced that my parents had parties after they put me to bed, so I made going to bed as difficult as possible. "How dare they put me to sleep just so they can have all the fun without me!" I thought.
I carried this night-owl tendency long into my teens and twenties. Moving to Taiwan didn’t help that because there’s always something to do at night in Taipei! Night markets, KTV, dancing, bowling, shrimp fishing, or just a stroll through a beautiful riverside park–you name it and the big city has something for you.
But while I was used to a lifetime of having a blast at night, I also habituated to feeling terrible in the morning: cranky, groggy, tired, fuzzy, or just generally out of it. I figured that was normal, that everybody felt like that. I couldn’t understand how all those elderly people could wake up and do tai chi in the parks at 5 am. "Maybe that’s what happens when you’re old," I thought.
And then I got old. Ha, or at least older. It didn’t happen overnight, but I started understanding that there really was a connection between getting a good night’s rest and feeling my best the next day; that if I wanted to have a great day, it started with having a great morning, and that started by resting earlier the night before.
So yeah, now I’m one of those weirdos who enjoys regularly going to bed around 21:00. I wake up somewhere between 6 and 7 in the morning without an alarm clock feeling well-rested. My 9- and 22-year-old selves would be thoroughly shocked to see me now. But I’d tell them, hey, I haven’t changed that much. I still love sleeping–in fact, I love it so much that I make it a higher priority. I figure, the sooner I get to bed, the sooner I can get back to having fun tomorrow. Maybe it isn’t about getting older, maybe it’s about getting wiser to what our bodies need.
I don’t know. What about you? Do you have good sleep habits? Do you have a special night routine that helps you prepare for the next day? Let me know in the comments. And as always, hit that record button when you’re ready with your sentence. Catch ya next time.
