Hello, Pronunciation Challenge listeners! Happy new year! Did everyone miss me? I had a busy week shooting a commercial and a TV show so I didn’t get a chance to record my weekly episodes for you. Well, I’m back and I must say, I really missed you guys! So, do any of you listeners have any New Year’s resolutions? For those that don’t know what new year resolutions are, they’re goals you set for yourself to achieve in the new year! A common goal to set for the new year would be to work out and get in shape. A lot of people set these goals hoping that they’ll be beach-body ready for the summer. (Beach-body means to have a nice body good enough to show off at the beach) Working out and getting stronger also sort of relates to our topic for today’s episode. In today’s episode, we’ll be talking about superpowers! How many of us actually wished we had superpowers? I certainly did! However, have we ever thought about the consequences of having some of these superpowers? Did you think how it’ll realistically affect others? Let’s get to the featured sentence first and find out then!

Today’s featured sentence:

For the first word, we have
Velocity
Four syllables.
“VE” has the short E sound. “LO” has the short O sound. “CI” has a short “U” sound supported by the S sound in front. “TY” simply sounds like the letter T. Velocity.

Next up, we have
Accelerating
Five syllables
The first syllable, “AC” actually sounds like the letter X. “CEL” sounds like the word “SELL” like buy and sell. “ER” is your typical ER sound. “A” has your long A sound. “TING” is your typical “ING” sound with a T in front. Accelerating.

Increases
Three syllables.
“IN” sounds like in and out. “CREA” sounds like it’s spelt, “C R E E”. “SES” sounds like “says” like “Simon says”. Increases.


Moving onto Vocabulary!

Used in a sentence, you could say:

And lastly,
3. Rapid
Definition:
fast or sudden
Used in a sentence, you could say:
“He/she has made rapid progress in English.”

Super speed doesn’t sound all that enticing (which means attractive or tempting) once you hear about all the bugs and cuts you’ll be suffering traveling at those speeds! What about the power of flight?! Can you imagine flying through a storm? Can you imagine how cold it’d get flying in the air at high speeds?! No thanks. The superpower I would want would be the power of teleportation! (Teleportation is the ability to be in one place one second and then be somewhere else in the blink of an eye). You wouldn’t have to suffer cuts and bugs flying in your face by going at high speeds or flying through storms and cold weather. With the ability to teleport, you can simply just appear somewhere, anywhere! You guys should watch a movie called Jumper to get an idea of what I’m talking about. You could eat sushi in Japan for lunch and then go chill on a beach in Hawaii right after! I don’t see any problems with this superpower!
