Intro:
Hi, VoiceTubers, welcome back to my weekly episode. Our video of the day talks about periods. Period is short for menstrual period or menstruation which most girls/women on Earth would go through, usually starting around age 12. The cycle happens approximately once every 28 days and lasts anywhere between two to seven days. I must say it’s the time of the month I dread the most because it makes me fatigued and it’s just a hassle having to remember to make trips to the bathroom frequently. Sometimes I get painful muscle cramps in the tummy, too. If you’re a girl, I bet you can totally relate to this. But if you’re a guy, you might have experienced the period too - by this I mean you might have been affected by a woman’s crazy mood swings. It’s not our fault that our hormones make us extra fragile around this time each month. Guys, please be considerate and understand that PMS (premenstrual syndrome) is really a thing and try not to be too irritating, okay?

Now let’s have a listen to our sentence of the day:

Sentence:
Appreciating these differences and learning about this monthly process can empower women, giving them the tools to understand and take charge of their own bodies.
欣賞這個異同和學習這每月的過程可以賦予女性權力,賦予她們能夠了解自己身體和主宰自己身體的工具。

Pronunciation Tips:

appreciating (second syllable = long ee sound)
about this (linking words)
women (plural for the singular “woman”)

Here’s the sentence one more time at a slower speed.

Vocabulary:
1.
appreciate (v.) 欣賞、賞識
•
KK[əˋpriʃɪ͵et] IPA /əˈpriː.ʃi.eɪt/
to recognize how good someone or something is and to value him, her, or it

Example:
He used to listen to rock music only but has recently started to appreciate classical music more and more.
他原本只聽搖滾樂,但最近開始越來越能夠欣賞古典音樂。

2.
process (n.) 過程、進程
•
KK[ˋprɑsɛs] IPA /ˈprɑː.ses/
a series of actions that you take in order to achieve a result

Example:
Repetition is important during the learning process.
學習過程中,重複是個很重要的環節。

3.
empower (v.) 授權、使能夠
•
KK[ɪmˋpaʊɚ] IPA /-ˈpaʊr/
to give someone official authority or the freedom to do something

Example:
She isn’t empowered to make important decisions at her company.
她在公司裡沒有權利做重要的抉擇。

Outro:

So today’s video explains how the menstruation cycle occurs on repeat each month, and happens approximately 450 times during a woman’s life. I bet every girl remembers the first time they got their period, and probably also has a couple of embarrassing stories relating to menstruation. Don’t worry, I’m too embarrassed to share mine here also, so let’s keep them to ourselves, girls.
While there are plenty of things I don’t love about my period, I do find it fascinating how a woman’s body works, how this also allows us girls to get pregnant and create a living creature inside us! Life is amazing and we should learn to appreciate it. Alright guys, that’s it for today. Don't forget to record your sentence and I’ll see you again next week. Bye for now.

Hi, VoiceTubers, welcome back to my weekly episode. Our video of the day talks about periods(/ˈpɪr.i.əd/月經週期). Period is short for menstrual(/ˈmen.strəl/月經的) period or menstruation(/ˌmen.struˈeɪ.ʃən/月經來潮n.) which most girls/women on Earth would go through, usually starting around age 12. The cycle(循環n.) happens approximately(大約) once(一次adv.) every 28 days and lasts(持續v.) anywhere(在一定範圍內的任何一處adv.) between two to seven days. I must say it’s the time of the month I dread(/dred/害怕v.) the most because it makes me fatigued(/fəˈtiːɡd/疲憊的=tired) and it’s just a hassle(/ˈhæs.əl/麻煩,困難) having to remember to make trips to the bathroom frequently. Sometimes I get painful muscle cramps(痙攣) in the tummy(肚子), too. If you’re a girl, I bet(打賭v.) you can totally relate(產生共鳴,認同v.) to this. But if you’re a guy, you might have experienced the period too - by this I mean you might have been affected by a woman’s crazy *mood swings(改變n.)(情緒波動). It’s not our fault that our hormones make us extra(特別地adv.) fragile(脆弱的) around this time each month. Guys, please be considerate(/kənˈsɪd.ɚ.ət/體貼的) and understand that PMS [premenstrual(/ˌpriːˈmen.stru.strəl/月經前的) syndrome] is really a thing(大條代誌) and try not to *be too irritating(被激怒), okay? Now let’s have a listen to our sentence of the day.

1. appreciate /əˈpriː.ʃi.eɪt/ (v.) 欣賞、賞識
to recognize how good someone or something is and to value him, her, or it:
He used to listen to rock music only but has recently started to appreciate classical music more and more. 他原本只聽搖滾樂,但最近開始越來越能夠欣賞古典音樂。

2. process /ˈprɑː.ses/ (n.) 過程、進程 a series of actions that you take in order to achieve a result:
Repetition(/ˌrep.əˈtɪʃ.ən/重複n.) is important during the learning process. 學習過程中,重複是個很重要的環節。

3. empower /ɪm ˈpaʊr/ (v.) 授權、使能夠 to give someone official authority or the freedom to do something:
She isn’t empowered to make important decisions at her company. 她在公司裡沒有權利做重要的抉擇。

So today’s video explains how the menstruation cycle occurs (發生v.) on repeat(重複n.) each month, and happens approximately 450 times during a woman’s life. I bet every girl remembers the first time they got their period, and probably also has a couple of embarrassing stories relating to(與...相關) menstruation. Don’t worry, I’m too embarrassed to share mine here also, so let’s keep(保密v.) them to ourselves, girls. While there are plenty of things I don’t love about my period, I do find it fascinating how a woman’s body works, and this also allows us girls to get pregnant(懷孕的) and create a *living creature(活生生的生物) inside us! Life is amazing and we should learn to appreciate it. Alright guys, that’s it for today. Don't forget to record your sentence and I’ll see you again next week. Bye for now.
