Hello friends! Hubert Tran, back again with another episode of pronunciation challenge! So let me paint a scenario for everyone. Scenario, meaning a situation. Imagine a world without oil. Not a bright future, huh? Many things we use rely on the use of oil. How would we get around? Bus fares could be very expensive and let’s not even think about air travel. You see, this actually happened not too long ago actually. Today’s video talks about the time there was actually a shortage of oil. How did that happen? Well, I guess you’ll have to watch the clip to find out! Once you do that, we’ll move onto today’s feature sentence!
Today’s featured sentence: “This led to using other energy sources, such as nuclear and renewable energy.”
I’ll say that again.
“This led to using other energy sources, such as nuclear and renewable energy.”
Ok, now time for the Pronunciation Tips.
Pronunciation Tips:
First word. Sources (sor·suhz) Two syllables. First syllable is pretty much “s o r”, sor. Second syllable sounds like “s e z”, sez. Sources.
Next one is a linking phrase! Such as Link the ‘ch’ sound with “as” to get suchas. Such as.
And our last one for pronunciation would be: Renewable (ruh·noo·uh·bl) Four syllables. Re has a short “e” sound, new as in brand new, uh-bl. Renewable.
Moving onto Vocabulary!
The first word is: 1. Energy (n.) KK[ˋɛnɚdʒɪ] IPA/ˈenədʒi/ Definition the power and ability to be physically and mentally active Used in a sentence you could say, “I just don’t have the energy to deal with you today.”
Next word, 2. Nuclear (adj.) KK[ˋnjuklɪɚ] IPA[ˈnjuːklɪə(r)] Definition being or using the power produced when the nucleus of an atom is divided or joined to another nucleus An example would be, “How many nations have a nuclear capability (= have nuclear weapons)?
And lastly, 3. Renewable (adj.) KK[rɪˈnuː.ə.bəl] IPA [rɪˈnjuːəbl] Definition: Renewable forms of energy can be produced as quickly as they are used. Used in a sentence you can say: “An example of renewable energy sources would have to be solar and wind power.”
Outro So today’s episode kinda makes us think about how we consume energy huh? Hopefully there is a long term solution with the advent (the rise of) of solar power and how we store electrical energy. Tesla for example, gives me some hope that we are heading in the right direction! Perhaps in the near future, we can go entirely green! Only time will tell. Alright people, that about does it for today’s pronunciation challenge. Make sure you do your recordings and leave some comments! I try to read every one of them so I’ll do my best to get back to you! If you want to find me on social media, you can find me on instagram at huberttran. Until next time! See ya!
☺This led to using other energy sources, such as nuclear and renewable energy.
