Today’s video is a little bit scary, as it talks about deadly, venomous animals! But don’t be scared to click on the video, as it contains some useful information! You don’t want to be caught unaware, simply because you were uninformed! It’s also quite fascinating to learn just how powerful some animals can be. It truly can be said that the wonders of nature never cease! And now, let’s take a look at today’s featured sentence:

Sentence:
78~82
Its venom also attacks the central nervous system but, this time, it slows everything down.
牠的毒液也會攻擊中樞神經系統,但這一次,毒液會讓樞神經系統減慢。

Pronunciation Tips:

Blended words: also attacks, the central
Nervous: er sound, short u
Everything: 3 syllables - the second e is not clearly enunciated

Vocabulary:
1. venom kk[ˋvɛnəm] IPA/ˈvɛnəm/
N. 毒液

Venom is a poisonous liquid that some animals such as snakes and insects produce, and can put into another animal's body by biting or stinging. Here’s an example sentence: “The venom produced by some snakes contains toxins that target the nervous system.”

venomous [ˋvɛnəməs] /ˈvɛnəməs/
Adj. 分泌毒液的;有毒腺的 poisonous

A creature that produces venom is called venomous. For example, “There are roughly 3000 species of snakes, but only about 600 of them are considered venomous.”

2. central [ˋsɛntrəl] /ˈsɛntrəl/
Adj. 中心的,中央的

Central is defined as in, at, from, or near the center or most important part of something. Here’s an example sentence: “Revenge is a central theme of Herman Melville's famous novel, Moby-Dick.”

3. slow (sb/sth) down
Phr. (使)減慢速度,(使)慢下來

To slow down means to become slower, or to make someone or something become slower. Here’s an example sentence: “If you’re driving and it starts to rain, please slow down and turn on your headlights.”

Outro

That brings us to the end of today’s pronunciation challenge. While it can be scary to learn about deadly, poisonous creatures, I believe that education is very important. Knowing what to do, or what places to avoid, can really be a lifesaver. But now I want to hear from you! What animals do you find scary? Have you ever encountered any venomous animals before? Let me know in the comments below, and don’t forget to do your recording! I’m Jonathan for VoiceTube. I’ll catch you next time!
