雙手奉上今天的逐字稿~
[Intro]
Hello, Voicetuber! It’s Doris. At the beginning of today’s pronunciation challenge, I’m going to tell you a fun fact about me. That is...I’m a big procrastinator! I’m always wondering how can those successful people stay motivated and never procrastinate. How do they dare to put all the eggs in one basket, to take risks just for this one chance to succeed? And one day when I was browsing the internet, I found this speech by Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, and it gave me the answer to my question above. Are you curious about the secret of success? Then let’s jump into the sentence, and it will tell you the answer.
[Vocabulary]
success (n.) 成功,成就
success的動詞型態為succeed,意思也是「成功」。如果要說在某件事上獲得成功,就可以使用succeed in ,舉例來說,Harry succeeded in getting his dream job. 意思就是 Harry 成功獲得了她夢寐以求的工作。那麼補充一個大家很容易搞混的單字,successive,這個單字雖然也是形容詞,但意思和 success 毫無關聯,successive 的意思是「連續的,相繼的」,大家不要搞錯了喔!
例句
She has achieved remarkable success in her career.
她在職涯中獲得了很顯著的成功。
freedom (n.) 自由
如果要說「言論自由」的話,就是 freedom of speech。
例句
They deprive the slaves’ freedom.
他們剝奪了奴隸的權利。
fail (v.) 失敗
如果要說在某件事上失敗了,就可以說fail to...,那麼再補充一個比較常見的用法,fail to understand,意思是「不明白」。像是 I fail to understand why you can’t arrive on time. 我不懂為何你不能準時抵達欸的意思喔。
例句
I fail to finish the exam on time.
我來不及在時間內寫完考卷。
[Outro]
Okay, that’s all for today’s pronunciation challenge! If you don’t think today’s sentence is inspirational enough, go check out the whole speech from Mark Zuckerberg. I’ll leave the link below. And don’t forget to record the sentence for today, I’ll see you next week!
