As most of you probably know, the Chinese New Year celebrations have just begun! And this is arguably one of the most popular times in the year for superstitions to pop up every now and then.

You know, you get a free pass if you break any dishes these days because it’s believed to bring luck to the family, the kind of food you should eat also matters (fish, you can’t go wrong with fish), the setting off of fireworks and hanging up of red stuff to ward off evil spirits and the monster, Nian.

The dos and the don’ts, when, how and why, down to the tiniest detail.

Superstitions and the paranormal-related things can be fun sometimes. I know I had a phase where I was really into tv shows with paranormal elements (no, not Twilight, sorry), and yeah, I’ll leave some time at the end to go down memory lane so please be sure to stick around if this kinda theme interests you.

Right now, though, let’s look at a well-known superstition regarding the number 13, of which is associated with bad luck in the West, here’s why (and it’s also our sentence of the day):

This was probably my first paranormal show - as the title plainly states, it’s a werewolf show with no vamps present throughout - ha! Weren’t expecting that, were you? No worries though, there are a lot of paranormal creatures in store with this one: banshees, kitsunes/fox spirits, chimeras, and more.

The Vampire Diaries/Legacies/The Originals.
But if you’re still set on Vampires, you’ll be happy to know that there are tons of Vampire shows: The Vampire Diaries, Legacies, The Originals. If it’s a triangle romance in particular you’re looking for, go for the first one (not sure about the other two), it’s not my favourite trope for romantic subplots (mine’s the enemy-turned-friend, obvs, duh), but it has its merits, especially when your ship is the one that sails *winks*.

And I think that’s enough for today. I know I keep going on with songs and movies and the like, but it’s only because this was my process of learning English - bingeing on shows and music and books, and I enjoyed it immensely so I’d recommend that you give it a try.
