This is the month that would always remind me a Christmas and spending time with family and friends and getting to see the snowfall. I’m from the north of The United State pretty much right next to Canada, so we tend to have a lot of snow and very long winter, so sometimes we (?) Christmas which means there is snow on the ground, but I think we’re talking about Christmas more in a coming episode. Since it’s early December. Today’s video is about trying to save money while being green. Some of the example including not using cars, washing your clothes with cold water, not eating meat once or twice a week, and switching the paperless billing. Today will be focusing more on the paperless side of thing. So having bill from your bank or your credit card that come in, so you can choose to have those ? of the mail or that actually send you a letter and it’ll go in your mailbox and you can look at it and you can pay for them or you can choose the paperless option which means that you have no paper at all and you just do anything on the computer by checking the website online. Now it’s 2019. I don’t really know why you want to get bill in the mail. It seems it’s kind of very old-fashioned to have paper bill. Yeah, I think paperless is definitely the way to go and if anyone out there is still using paper on (license?.) I’m just curious why? Feel free to put your comment below if you like paper in getting your bill in the mail. Maybe there are some of the advantages to that I’m not seeing. Let’s check out today’s sentence.

Alright so today’s sentence kind of revolve around money a little bit. Paperless billing your bill get in the mail will be no paper and you don’t need to buy stamps and you make automatic payment from your bank account online. You can choose ? automatic payment which means the money will get taken from your bank and use to pay any bill maybe credit card or bank fee and that’s automatic, you don’t need to do anything and you want to avoid late fee. Late fee is nasty, those you’re too late to pay the bill. Let’s say. Your bill is due on fifteenth, but you forget and you don’t pay until eighteen. Sometime you may get a late fee extra money you need to pay, so you want to avoid it at all cost. Alright, now it comes to the pronunciation in the sentence. A suffix is just (a phonic?) that come in at the end of the sentence, so this case is less.
If you the suffix less at the end of a word. It’s basically neglecting it or saying it doesn’t have a certain quality. So paperless means no paper. Careless, you can hear the base word care, to care, but careless means without care or not to care. Helpless, so we have the word help. I’m sure you all know that word already. So helpless means you cannot help yourself. Now there are many and many other examples that is really common suffix in English. So I think that’s very useful thing to learn because you’re gonna see a lot and most of the words though this is ? quite common like paper, care, help in the example that I gave you. Can you think of another word that contains the suffix less. Feel free to put your example below and you can think of one.
Alright, let’s move on to the vocabulary.
Number one is paperless. It’s an adjective and it means to store information and communicate with each other using computer rather than paper. So yaeh, so we (resolve?) the bill we can communicate online. I don’t need to write you a letter anymore. I can send you a text message. I don’t need to get my bill from the bank in my mailbox. I can just ? my cellphone or computer. So check out the example: I decided to go paperless so I wouldn’t have all these annoying credit card offers in the mail. I want to go paperless, so I can avoid having all kind of extra stuff sent to me in the mail and I’m just gonna throw away.
Alright, word number two is billing, another money word. This one is noun and it means the process of sending people bills asking them to pay money owed. So a bill is just something that you pay. You’re gonna get the bill for your current insurance or bill for your credit card whenever the money is spent on their, or you’re gonna get a bill for your rent that you need to pay for your apartment or your house. So here’s an example: I chose to make my monthly billing automatic since I always forget to check my credit card balance online. I’m pretty good. I don’t really use my credit card that much. When I do, I have my automatic payment set up. So my billing is very easy to take care of. However, I definitely used to forget to pay my student loan sometime. Sometime I would be one or two weeks late.
Alright, let’s go to number three. The word is avoid. It’s a verb and it means to stay away from someone or something, but avoid is very intentional. Avoid means kind of that you don’t want to see someone or you don’t want to see something. It’s not really an accident. Although sometime we say I didn’t try to void you. It means I didn’t want to not see you, but it just happened.
Check the example sentence first: I’m trying to avoid my boss today since I totally forgot about the deadline. So you have the deadline due today, you forgot. So you probably try to finish your work and you want to avoid your boss, which means not see your boss until after you finish your deadline. Now you can try to avoid a lot of things like, oh my god, I really need to my girlfriend today. She is really angry and we have a big fight, so I try to avoid her. So you can use avoid with any situation. It can be your money, relationships, problems, but generally we want to avoid stuff that bad. It doesn’t make sense to want to avoid something that is good, right? Maybe you guys are telling me what something that you guys try to avoid. Like for me, I would say I try to avoid sleeping too late, so I usually pack my bag the night before, so I can avoid that problem. I pack my bag tonight that way tomorrow morning. I can wake up at 6:30. And not have that excuse, my god, I gotta pack my bag. I don’t want to wake up. So what do you guys try to avoid? This should be awesome, chance for you guys to leave an example sentence using the vocabulary and this is usually kind of the fun one.
Alright, thanks for listening to my challenge today. I’m curious what you guys do the green. Tell me your green habit thoughts and the green thing you do does it save your money? For me I use public transportation. It’s very really easy in Taipei not having a car. All my bills are paperless. I actually try to not eat meat once or twice a week because I think it’s just a little more healthy. And I noticed that my stomach was sometime upset. I think for eating too much meat. On the biggest change that I’ve been trying to do though is to not use plastic bag especially in grocery store. I usually use my backpack to carry stuff out, but unfortunately this plastic bag is going to my kitchen and the one that don’t get used might end up in the trash. That’s really not what I want to do and I’m really care about environment, care about being green and I want this be something that other people care about. So I think if I want other people to care about it. I need to be role model myself. So I try to stop using plastic bag. Well, that’s gonna be for today’s pronunciation challenge.
