- For geologist perspective Taiwan is really unique for I guess three reasons one how it formed Taiwan formed in a very unique way with two continents colliding into each other its formation is super unique this is big Eurasia the continent of Eurasia this here is the water level this is a this is the ocean bottom this ocean floor Taiwan majority of the rocks in Taiwan the majority of Taiwan is down here and this is the this is the coast of the continent of Eurasia right so Taiwan a lot of Taiwan stuff is down here which is just said sediments like mud you got the Philippine ocean plate which is on top of the Philippine ocean plate were a chain of volcanic islands which is what Lüdao and Lanyu are made out of they're crawling in from the southeast and they're coming in they're encroaching they're encroaching they're encroaching and a collision happened underneath the ocean and this collision is what they pushed together they squeezed together they squeezed together and and this ocean sediments rose up and created a mountain range so it's so this is so if you can think about this is my thesis I'm just holding I feel like but I need I need to use tool a lot of Taiwan majority of Taiwan is deep ocean rocks which are now make up the majority mountain ranges like that like the mud like the slate and then the east coast of Taiwan right here is that the Philippine ocean plate which kind of is slapped on to the eastern part of Taiwan and pushed this stuff up so all of the force that's happening is coming from the east so like Taiwan is basically pushed.

- This is my master's thesis I basically did a uh description of uh tried tried to be as simple as I could to explain uh Hualien's geology hopefully you could pick this up in a year or so but so oh you mean like the book not the not the concept no no this book I still haven't picked up I still haven't picked up on the concept this is like magnetic yeah this is a this is called Serpentinite Taiwan Jade comes from this rock it was formed in the lenses in the veins almost you know like veins in your skin in a serpentinite rock it's magnetic because it's been metamorphosed this used to just be some lame or kind of cool igneous rock kind of cool lava rock and this got basically cooked again and squeezed under intense pressure and the black stuff turned into the mineral magnetite so it's magnetic magnetic which is just iron and oxygen and then the green stuff the green stuff turned into either serpentine this this green mineral which is looks very similar it's a little shinier looks very similar to nephrite but it's not see-through and it's not as hard this is like basically an evolved rock I wanted to talk about like the little bit uh different rock like so these rocks are all from Taiwan yes but they look very different could you just walk me through like just geographically like the rocks that are from different regions of Taiwan if we were to we know Jade so this is like only found in Hualien not found at Jade Mountain Marble Eastern Taiwan Hualien and Taitung
