這是義大利語的「冰淇淋」,而且它的發音,小朋友們聽起來可能會覺得像是胡言亂語,尤其小小兵們的發音有點不準,但它又完全符合說話的語境。

Intro:
What’s up, VoiceTubers. Tera here with another Pronunciation Challenge episode. I believe we are all familiar with today’s topics—those lovable little clumsy mischief-makers starring in the movie series "Despicable Me", often known as the "Minions". They are just so adorable that we can easily see tons of products with images of them nearly everywhere, from clothes to utensils. Even motorcycles are decorated just like them. (If you don’t get it, type in "Yamaha Vinoora Minion" and search, you’ll soon understand.) But, have you ever paid close attention to the words they speak? Check out the video to see how "Minionese" is created and how this constructed language works. And today’s featured sentence is…

Featured sentence: That's Italian for "ice cream", and it's also the kind of word that probably sounds like gibberish to young ears, especially since the Minions kind of mispronounce it, but it totally fits in context.

Tips:
1. gibberish: three syllables with the stress on the first one. "gi" is /ˋdʒɪ/, "bber" has a minor reduced vowel, /ə/, sound, and "rish" is "rɪʃ". Altogether, "gibberish"
2. especially: four syllables with the stress on the second one. "e" is /ə/, "spe" is /spɛ/. Also notice that the "p" here will be pronounced as /b/ because it’s preceded by a "s". "cia" is /ʃǝ/, and "lly" is /li/. Again, "especially".
3. mispronounce: three syllables with the stress on the third one. "mis" is a negation prefix, "pro" is /prə/, and finally, "nounce" is /naʊns/. Remember to precisely pronounce the diphthong /aʊ/. Together, mispronounce.
4. context: two syllables with the stress on the first one. "xt" is a consonant cluster /kst/, so each of the sounds should be clearly articulated.

Vocab:
gibberish (n.) KK [ˋdʒɪbərɪʃ] IPA /ˈdʒɪb.ɚ.ɪʃ/
def: spoken or written words that have no meaning
語無倫次的話
Being the witness of the serious accident, she was so shocked that she started talking gibberish.
身為這起嚴重意外的目擊者,她太過驚嚇以至於開始語無倫次地講話。

mispronounce (v.) KK [͵mɪsprəˋnaʊns] IPA /ˌmɪs.prəˈnaʊns/
def: to pronounce a word or sound wrongly
讀錯音
"Extraordinary" is one of the English words that people often mispronounce.
Extraordinary 是其中一個大家常常會講錯的英文單字。

context (n.) KK [ˋkɑntɛkst] IPA /ˈkɑːn.tekst/
def: the text or speech that comes immediately before and after a particular phrase or piece of text and helps to explain its meaning
上下文;語境
One of the abilities that humans have but computers don’t is that humans can easily understand a word based on its context, although the word is not even clear.
其中一個人類擁有但電腦沒有的能力是,就算字詞不清楚,人類還是可以透過上下文來理解它。

Outro:
Unlike other movies in which linguists were called in to develop linguistic elements, there were no linguists involved in establishing Minionese. Without the help of linguists, then how are people able to understand it? Just as mentioned in the video, Minionese is a language mixed by many foreign languages, and some unintelligible meaningless sounds, so that people are able to detect a few words and experience an “a-ha” moment. Word rhymes are another special feature because humans are wired to understand a word if it sounds similar to a word they're already familiar with. Furthermore, just like how body languages function when people communicate using natural languages, it plays a crucial role when the language is parsed. Seems to be a whole lot of nonsense, Minionese is actually a very sophisticated language. Next time if you’re watching the movies again, why not take notice of these nuanced sounds? Alright, I guess it’s time for us to say goodbye. This is Tera. See you next time.

那是意大利話的「冰淇淋」,尤其是小小兵們不太標準的發音,同時也讓小朋友聽來像是在胡言亂語,但它完全符合前後劇情發展。
