Hey, what’s good, VoiceTubers? Wen here, again. Before we jump into today’s topic, there’s a little something:

Alrighty, today, we’re getting real and talking about (what’s that?) breaking bad habits. But wait, hold up. Uh, this has nothing to do with the tv series, Breaking Bad, right? Hang around till the end of the episode to find out! Right now, we’re shifting back to ourselves.

The funny thing about habits is that they seem all too deceptively innocent. I mean, what harm could come from just an extra 15 minutes of tv time? Look, I’ll just do the dishes later, it’s just a few plates. C’mon. Next thing you know, 15 minutes of extra tv time drags onto an hour, and there goes all your motivation to be productive. And notice how the plates have piled up in the sink (how did a 10-minute task just become hours of work?).

Look at us, always, always, underestimating the repercussions of our bad habits and their ability to land us into hot water. Lucky for us, it’s never too late to redeem ourselves! A video, titled “How to Break Bad Habits” shows us how to just do that in 4 simple steps, here’s one of them:

Sentence
You figured out your triggers for this bad habit and you decided on ways to avoid and replace these triggers with healthier alternatives.

Figured out
1. figure out ˈfɪɡ.jɚ aʊt
phr.
To figure out something is to solve or understand it.

Example:
In the previous episode, Sherlock Holmes figured out the mastermind behind the murder case.

go figure
phr.
Is used to express disbelief incredulity

Example:
Did you know that Josh left the country without telling anyone? Go figure.

2. trigger ˈtrɪɡ.ɚ
Something that causes another.
To initiate something, usually something bad.

Example:
Remember to add trigger warnings before releasing this article, as suicide is a sensitive subject matter and might potentially upset readers.

3. alternative ɑːlˈtɝː.nə.t̬ɪv
An alternative means an option that could act as a replacement.

Example:
Before sending in your application for this university, you should consider other alternatives.

Outro
That brings us to the end of today’s pronunciation challenge! Bad habits are usually a huge source of our frustrations, but with enough mindfulness and determination, they’re definitely fixable and if you’re smart about it, you could even transform them into positive habits that give you a seamless routine.

Now, here’s a show I’m going to recommend: Breaking Bad.

I haven’t finished the show but it’s a well-recognized series with a fascinating premise about a chemistry teacher ‘breaking bad’ and going into the drug- dealing world.
Going back to the term ‘breaking bad’ mentioned at the start - the term has no direct relation to breaking bad habits but rather, this term is a Southern American colloquialism meaning ‘to go wild’ or to a more extreme extent ‘to defy authority’. So, there’s a fun fact for you.

I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s snippet as much as I have! Let me know whether or not you’ve tried the steps and how they’ve worked out. I’ll do another shoutout, same time next week, in response to your comments! Please remember to leave your recordings, too! Catcha next time!

Thanks, Wen! What’s good, VoiceTubers? Wen here, again. Already, today we’re getting real and talking about (what’s that?) breaking bad habits. But wait, hold up, uh.. This {has} nothing to with the TV series “Breaking bad”, right? Well, hang around {till} the end of the episode to find out. Right now, we’re shifting(v.轉換) back to ourselves. The funny thing about bad habits is that {they seem all too deceptively([dɪˋsɛptɪvlɪ]adv.虛偽地) innocent([ˋɪnəsnt]a.無害的).} I mean, what harm could come from just {an} extra 15 minutes of TV time? Look, I’ll just do {the dishes} later, it’s just a few plates(n.盤子), come on. Next thing, you know, 15 minutes of extra TV time {drags(v.拖) onto} an hour, and there goes(與⋯有關) {all your} motivation to be productive(a. And notice how the plates have {piled up(堆疊)} in the sink? How did the 10-minutes task just become hours of work? {?Well}, look at us, always always {underestimating(v.低估) the repercussions([͵ripɚˋkʌʃən]n.惡果)} of our bad habits and {their} ability to {land(v.使陷入) us into hot water}. Lucky for us, it’s never too late to {redeem([rɪˋdim]v.補救)} the ourselves. A video titled “How to break bad habits?” shows us just how to do {that in} 4 simple steps, and here’s one of them which is also a sentence of the day: You figured out your triggers for this bad habit and you decided on ways to avoid and replace these triggers with healthier alternatives.

1-1. figure out [ˈfɪɡ.jɚ aʊt] (phr.)
In the previous episode, Sherlock Holmes figured out the mastermind([ˋmæstɚmaɪnd]n.策劃者) behind the murder case.

1-2. go figure
Did you know that Josh left the country without telling anyone? Go figure!

2-1. trigger [ˈtrɪɡ.ɚ] (n.)
trigger finger = index 食指
-Remember to add tigger warnings(n.警告) before releasing(n.發表) this article, as suicide is a sensitive subject(n.主題) matter and might potentially upset(v.

2-2. trigger (v.)
+ Some people find that certain foods trigger their headaches.

Before sending in(送出) your application for this university, you should consider other alternatives.

And that bring us to the end of the pronunciation challenge. Bad habits are usually a huge source of our frustrations(n.沮喪), but with enough mindfulness(n.正念認知) and determination(n.決心), they’re definitely fixable, and if you’re {smart} about it, you can even transform them into positive habits that can give you a {seamless([ˋsimlɪs]a.順利的)} routine. Now, let’s talk about the show I mentioned in the beginning of the episode, “Breaking bad”. So I haven’t finished it yet, but it’s well-recognized series with a fascinating {premise([ˋprɛmɪs]n.假定)} about a chemistry teacher ‘breaking bad’ and going into drug-dealing world hints(v.提示) the title. So, looking at the term “breaking bad” in the title, the term has no direct relation to breaking bad habits, but rather, this term is Southern American colloquialism([kəˋlokwɪəlɪzəm]n.口語用法) meaning ‘to go wild’ or to a more extreme {extent([ɪkˋstɛnt]n.範圍)} ‘to defy(v.反抗) authority’, so there’s a fun fact for you. I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s {snippet([ˋsnɪpɪt]n.一則消息)} a bit as much as I have. Let me know down below whether or not you’ve tried the {steps} and how they’ve worked out. I’ll do another shoutout, same time next week, and please remember to leave your recordings, too. Catcha(=catch you, catch ya) next time!
