這個小男孩藉由跟小兔玩偶講話，來跟自己對話，因為唯有如此，他的語氣才能異常地充滿了同情與憐憫。其實在我們的生活當中，自言自語是個很普遍的行為，雖然這聽起來有點奇怪。

■今天來做一下筆記：比較以下四個意思很相近名詞：Sympathy, Empathy, Pity and Compassion
➤Sympathy (n.)[U]同情(跟別人的感受做連結)
➤Empathy(n.)[U]共感、移情。沒有過相同遭遇的人，可以對他人有Sympathy(同情心)，但沒辦法產生共感(Empathy)
➤Pity (n.)[U] 憐憫、同情，這比較是出於對弱者的一種責任感和仁慈，有點區分社會地位差別的意味，也可當及物動詞。
➤Compassion (n.)[U] 憐憫、同情，其實 sympathy, pity, compassion在意義上非常類似，但 compassion 帶有一種極想做出積極作為來解決問題的傾向，也就是不只是在感受上同情某人，而是帶有亟欲協助他人脫離困境的那種意味。

今天忽然想到教我們西班牙文發音的那位神父。
他是西班牙人，來到台灣從事教育三十多年，今年終於回西班牙了。

想到他以前說過的一個笑話，算是笑話吧！
這個是關於西班牙文的lengua這個字。

有一次神父上課時說了一句話
"¿Puedes enseñarme la lengua española?"
(Can you teach me the Spanish language?)

lengua 有兩個意思，一個是language，另一個是tongue
enseñar 也有teach 和 show 的意思

男孩透過他的兔兔跟自己對話，因為唯有如此他的語氣才能充滿同情心跟憐憫心。雖然聽起來有點奇怪，但是在日常生活中，跟自己對話是個常見的行為。

1 . rarely 很少、難得

rarely [ˋrɛrlɪ] (adj.) 很少、難得
I rarely go to the movies.
我很少去電影院看電影。

rare [rɛr] (adj.) 稀有的
I heard this sort of crystal is extremely rare.
聽說這樣的水晶非常的稀有。

2 . present 出席的、在場的

present [ˋprɛznt] (adj.) 出席的、在場的
You were present! You should remember what she said.
你也在場啊! 你應該會記得她說了甚麼。

presence [ˋprɛzns] (n.) 在場
He felt quite uncomfortable with the presence of this stranger.
有個陌生人在場，他覺得十分不自在。

absent [ˋæbsnt] (adj.) 缺席的
He has been absent from classes due to his illness.
他因為病的不輕所以不斷地缺席上課。

absence [ˋæbsns] (n.) 不在、缺席
The absence of the role of father has been a huge hole to her childhood.
父親這個腳色的缺席，對她的童年來說是一個很大的缺憾。

3 . compassion 憐憫、同情

compassion [kəmˋpæʃən] (n.) 憐憫、同情
As a teacher, she has a great compassion for her students.
作為一個老師，她對於他的學生非常有同情心。

compassionate [kəmˋpæʃənet] (adj.) 同情、憐憫

passion [ˋpæʃən] (n.) 熱情
Translation is definitely my passion.
翻譯絕對是我的熱情所在。

4 . sympathy 同情心

sympathy [ˋsɪmpəθɪ] (n.) 同情心
I do not need your sympathy!
不需要你同情我!

empathy [ˋɛmpəθɪ] (n.) 同理心
put yourself into others’ shoes.
換位思考

pathetic [pəˋθɛtɪk] (adj.) 可憐的、可悲的
It’s quite pathetic to beg for someone else’s love.
如果你今天需要苦苦哀求別人來愛你的話，是還蠻可憐的。

5 . odd 古怪的

odd [ɑd] (adj.) 古怪的
It’s quite odd for you to do so.
你這樣的行為舉止真的是蠻不尋常的。
