Today I'm gonna share with you guys about my thoughts on @$^&#%!?. 今天我要來討論我對@$^&#%的想法 XD My English Corner videos will be in English, 好久不見的 English Corner 影片會是全英文的喔 so that you guys can practice your English listening skills. 讓大家可以訓練英文聽力 I can also take this opportunity to share with you guys some of my thoughts. 我也可以順便跟大家分享一些我的想法 Remember to turn on c.c. to read the English subtitles on YouTube. 記得要開 YouTube 的 CC 字幕來看到英文的字幕 If you'd like to read in both English and Chinese, 如果你想要看到中英文雙字幕版本 You can click here to watch this video on VoiceTube! 可以點這邊,到 VoiceTube 上面看! So, as most of you already know I upload English-related, teaching-related content onto this channel 所以呢,大家應該都知道我會在這個網站上傳英文相關、教學相關的影片 They're all family-friendly 他們都適合全家大小觀看 And that's the way I intended it to be, 我是刻意這樣設計的, because kids might be watching. 因為有時候小孩子會一起看這些影片 But recently I might have let loose some swear words here and there, 但最近我可能脫口說出一些髒話, and I'm getting comments like: "Oh Ray is swearing!" 然後就會出現一些像是「你看阿滴在罵髒話欸」的評論 or "Oh I've never heard him swear", 或是「我從來沒聽過阿滴罵髒話耶」這樣的留言 so on and so forth. 諸如此類的 Owing to that, some people around me would start telling me to watch my language more, 也因為這樣,有些人就叫我謹慎用字 that I need to set an example, yeah... 說我應該做好榜樣之類的,嗯... So today I wanted to talk to you about my thoughts on profanity, 所以今天呢,我想來跟大家分享我對「詈語」的看法, which is just a fancy way of saying swear words, curse words, bad words, whatever. 詈語其實就是髒話啦 First things first, I do not encourage swearing but I do swear off camera... 首先,我當然不鼓勵罵髒話,但我現實生活會講一些髒話... Sooooometimes! 有時候啦!很偶而! Now before you go off at me, 不過,在你抨擊我之前, I believe the intent of your communication outweighs the specific words you use. 我只想說,我相信人們溝通的重點是在於意圖而不是拘泥於遣詞用字 Okay, I know that may sound like a lame excuse but, but hear me out. 好,我知道這樣聽起來真的很像在找藉口,但請聽我說 For example, the phrase "oh my god" used to be regarded as profanity 舉例來說,「我的天啊」這用語以前會被歸類為髒話 Such a common phrase, such a common saying was once frowned upon. 這句慣用語,在以前是不太能被接納的 This is because saying "oh my god" is seen as "using the Lord's name in vain", 因為它被認為是褻瀆神的語句 which is a taboo amongst Christians. 這對基督徒來說是禁忌 But nowadays it's really just an expression. 但是現在我們都把它當作一個慣用語 As language adapts into our culture, our society, our norms, people just use it because people use it. 當語言融入我們的文化、社會、日常時,人們自然而然就接受了 So it really just comes down to what you mean by the words you say. 所以總結來說,重點就在於你用這個「髒話」的意義是什麼 While we're on this subject, 我們在討論這個議題的同時 I would like to share an interesting story that happened to me back in middle school. 我想跟大家分享一件發生在我國中時期的趣事 So I studied in a Christian school and obviously any form of cussing is banned. 我讀的是基督教學校,理所當然地,任何髒話都被禁止 That is especially the case for our grammar classes. 特別是文法課 Our grammar teacher, Mr. Mills, is a devout Christian you see. 我的文法老師 Mr. Mills 是個非常虔誠的基督徒 And he only has two rules in the classroom: 在他的課上只有兩條規矩: one, you do not swear, 一就是你不能罵髒話 two, you do not use the Lord's name in vain. 二就是你不能褻瀆神之名 But he is considerate enough to give us some cheats. 但是他也很好心的提供我們一些替代方案 So instead of shit you can say shoot; 那就是,用「shoot」代替「shit」 instead of damn you can say darn; 用「darn」代替「damn」 instead of Jesus you can say geez (or jeez). 用「geez」代替「jesus」 And instead of oh my god you can say oh my gosh. 或是用「oh my gosh」代替「oh my god」等等 He made this so perfectly clear that every time you break the rules, 他說得很清楚,只要有人破壞規矩 you have to put in 10NT dollars into the class piggy bank. 就要在班上的存錢桶貢獻 10 塊錢 And usually by the end of the semester, 通常到了學期末, we would use that money for like a pizza party or something. 我們就用這些錢來買披薩吃 But I remember one time in class, 但我記得有一次上課 as I was wiping some dust off my glasses, 當我在擦眼鏡 and then somehow I broke it into two, 結果就不小心把它弄斷了 It came as a shock so as a reflex, I said: "Oh my gooooood." 我的直覺反應就是,「噢,我的天啊!」 and only after I realized I had to add the -sh at the end to make it gosh. 我說完才發現我應該用替代詞的 But it's so depressing that I broke my glasses, right? 但是我超不爽我弄壞了眼鏡,你懂嗎? So I naturally just extended that -sh into a 結果我反而把後面那的 -sh 延伸成為 shiiit! shit 也就是「靠!」 So I ended up saying "Oh my god shit." 所以我那時候說的是「噢,我的天啊!靠!」 And I had to put in 20 into the piggy bank 結果就是我在班上的存錢桶貢獻了 20 塊 So the moral of the story? 這故事的寓意是什麼? I dunno, don't break your glasses in class? 不知道,或許是叫你小心一點不要在課堂上弄斷眼鏡吧? Anyways back to my point, 總之,回到我的重點 I think that swearing is all about what you mean. 我覺得罵髒話不是不行,而是你罵髒話的意義是什麼 If all is just in good fun then I don't really see the harm in that. 如果只是好玩,我也不覺得那有什麼大不了 There's even a new study published in the journal "Social Psychological and Personality Science", 甚至一篇在【Social Psychological and Personality Science】發表的研究還顯示 that found people who swear more associating with higher degrees of honesty and integrity. 愛罵髒話的人比起其他人來得誠實與正直 F*ck yeah! 真他X對極了! Swearing is a form of self-expression, 罵髒話是一種自我表現 so by doing that you are actively portraying yourself honestly. 所以這麼做才能顯現你真實的內心 compared to those who refrain from it. 比起其他積口德的人要好多了 Well at least that's what the study says. 至少這個研究是這麼說的啦 But on the other hand, 但另一方面呢, some people do get offended by swearing. 有些人不喜歡被罵髒話 So that's also something you have to bear in mind. 所以你也要謹記這件事 If you're with a group of friends, 如果你跟一群朋友在一起 and you're used to throwing around swear words as a joke, 而你們都很習慣用髒話問候對方 I don't see that as too much of a problem. 那我就不覺得這樣有什麼問題 But if you're with someone who would mistake your intent and get all offended, 但如果你是對一個可能誤會你意思的人 then even if you mean no harm, 那就算你沒有惡意 it would be better if you keep it to yourself. 你最好還是往自己肚裡吞就好 And also, obviously, if you swear too much, people would think that you're vulgar and impolite. 還有,當然如果你太常罵髒話,你可能會被人家誤會是沒教養、沒禮貌 That was just an example. 這... 這只是一個例子啦 I don't really talk like that. 我不會真的那樣講話 I know some friends who would swear excessively all the time, 我有些朋友就很愛罵髒話 and it can really get annoying. 有時候我也覺得很煩 It's all about the timing and context. 要罵髒話也要看時間地點 There's a time and place for everything, even swearing. 不是想罵就能罵的 So I think it's a mixed bag. 這是個一體兩面的問題 There are both sides to the argument and there is no clear verdict. 有人支持、有人反對,也沒有絕對的答案 What do you think? 那你們覺得呢? Do you think that all swear words are bad no matter what, 你們覺得所有髒話都是不好的嗎, or are you okay with people swearing? 還是你們覺得罵髒話很 ok? Let me know in the comments! 在影片底下留言你的答案吧! Is that, is that rain? 呃,現在是在下雨嗎? Yeah 對啊 Shit 靠 Don't put that in! 別把那段剪進來! Ay, what do you think of the story tho? 欸,你覺得那故事如何? The story is very funny! 那故事很好笑啊! All the funny story right here! 要聽好笑的故事都在這裡哦! If I may say so myself~ 如果我可以這樣毛遂自薦的話啦 Ok, very funny story 好啦,超好笑的 Don't forget to check out my latest videos on Monday and Thursday night at 9p.m.! 不要忘記一四晚上九點回來看影片!
