I'm honored today to be joined by Dina Esqueros, the director of graduate admissions at the Stevens Institute of Technology in beautiful Hoboken, New Jersey.

Well, Dina, I wanted to open the conversation by talking a little bit about where Stevens is located.

Hoboken sounds like it could be on a placid lake somewhere in far distant New Jersey.

But in fact, the skyline of New York is in.

So tell us a little bit about Hoboken and where it is geographically in the states.

So Hoboken, New Jersey, is actually a little small town, a city that is one square mile.

So you can literally walk around the entire Hoboken in probably about 45 to 50 minutes.

Now, Hoboken, New Jersey, is right across the river from the New York City skyline.

So we are the first city outside of New York.

And as a matter of fact, there was recently a study that came out that said residents of Hoboken, probably about 80 to 82% of them, have at least a bachelor's degree.

So Hoboken is a fairly affluent area right outside of New York, and

it is actually considered a New York region as well.

So from Hoboken, you can get into New York city in about 15 minutes, door to door.

You have, you know, a little bit more greenery, you have more space, you have quieter streets, but

It's the perfect way to experience New York City with a little bit of distance.

But then during the day, you can get there.

And to get to New York, how do you get there?

There are various ways to get to New York.

So we have the PATH train, which goes underneath the Hudson River.

There are buses that go from here to New York, and

there are actually also ferries that cross over between New York City and Hoboken.

And if I'm taking the ferry and I look, I think to my right, I can see the Statute of Liberty, the most iconic Bit of public art in the U.S.

I'm happy to actually show you the skyline if you'd like to see it.

I see a large ship going down the Hudson as we speak.

And it's fascinating too that Hoboken has 80% of its residents have a degree.

the average is about slightly less than 40% of Americans have a bachelor's degree.

So Hoboken is, I suppose, twice as educated as the American norm.

Just to kind of illustrate why that's a big deal.

You're close to New York, but a little bit quieter vibes.

Stevens has been around since 1870, so it's got 150 plus years of proud tradition.

So Stevens Institute of Technology is a STEM research university.

So we concentrate on programs such as science, technology, engineering, math.

We have two schools under our umbrella that offer graduate programs and three schools that offer undergraduate programs at the graduate level, where I tend to have my focus.

We have the School of Engineering and Science that houses all the engineering and science programs.

You have artificial intelligence, computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, which was actually Stevens started mechanical engineering here in the United States in 1870.

And the association or Society of Mechanical Engineers was actually started at Stevens as well.

而機械工程師協會或學會也是在史蒂文斯創立的。

And then we also have the School of Business that offers technology based business programs such as business analytics and artificial intelligence, information systems, financial technology and analytics, which is sort of the fintech area right now.

So all of our programs here at Stevens really revolve around technology sciences, engineering, math programs, data science, that kind of thing.

You have the full swath of STEM programs.

And this also raises a question in my mind.

You know, this was the first college built for purposes of pursuing science and mechanical engineering.

You also have cutting edge computer science programs.

你們也有最尖端的電腦科學課程。

I know the wave of the not too distant future will be the merger of pure computer science and physical engineering in the form of robotics.

My guess is having all of these under one, one platform, one umbrella position.

Well, for the next advances in AI, which could include the manipulation of physical space.

Listen, I think interdisciplinary approach of education has been an integral part of Stevens Institute of Technology since day one.

And it's something that we hold very dear to all the programs that we do have here at Stevens.

So in the sense of how do we merge cybersecurity with information systems, how do we merge artificial intelligence with business intelligence and analytics, so on and so forth.

So the interdisciplinary approach of education, whether it's at the master's or PhD level, is something that is widespread across all of our programs here at Stevens.

And it's interesting you mentioned artificial intelligence, because I think artificial intelligence is here to stay.

So we need to be sure that every single program has a bit of an approach of artificial intelligence.

And so this is something that Stevens, at the Graduate Curriculum Committee, we're starting to do in terms of how do we combine these programs to be able to offer the students what they're going to need upon graduation for their careers.

Now, Stevens Institute of Technology has had a 97% employability rate of all of our graduate students.
