Intro
Hello VoiceTubers! Welcome to the Pronunciation Challenge of Wednesday. I am Mia.
The video today is about "sexual orientation." Do you guys know what sexual orientation means in English?
Sexual orientation is about who you're attracted to and who you feel drawn to romantically, emotionally, and sexually.
The world today is diverse. People can love any person they want, and no matter is a boy or girl, or people of different races or countries.
But with more understanding of sexual orientation, we also start to realize there is a group of people who experiences little or no sexual attraction. They are asexual. Even as people gain more awareness of LGBTQ+ identities, asexuality remains poorly understood by many.
So check out this video to learn more about asexual and the diverse world. But for now, it is time for today's sentence!

Sentence
Because most of society deems sexual attraction important, asexuals are often ostracized, even pitied for their sexual orientation.

Pronunciation Tips
1. attraction: Let’s separate the word into three parts, a-ttrac-tion.
The first part, the “a” is pronounced as /ə/. And then in the second part is/ træk/. Although there are two “t” there, we just have to pronounce a single “t” sound. And then tr is /tr/. The “a” here is /æ/, so open your mouth and your tongue should be flat. Therefore, the second part is / træk/. Here comes the last part, also the easiest one. In English, “tion” is pronounced /ʃən/. Noted there is a slight /ə/ sound here. So /ʃən/. Combining all together, /əˈtræk.ʃən/, /əˈtræk.ʃən/.

2. ostracize: The word looks a little complicated. As usual, separate the word into three parts, o-stra-cize.
The first part, “o” is pronounced /ɑ/, like the ㄚ in Chinese, but put more stress on it. In the second part, “stra,” as we just mentioned, “tr” is pronounced /tr/. And then the “a” here is /ə/. So the second part is /strə/. Now is the last part, “cize” when there is a alphabat between “i” and “e” , “i” and “e” will have /aɪ/ sound. So the last part will be, /aɪ/, /saɪz/. Combining all together, /ˈɑː.strə.saɪz/, /ˈɑː.strə.saɪz/, not /ˈɔː.strə.saɪz/.

3. orientation: Separate the word into four parts, o-rien-ta-tion. “O” in the beginning is /ˌɔ/. Your mouth should be round, like a circle. The second part is,/r.i.en/. “En” is /en/ And third part, “ta” is /teɪ/. And last part, “tion” you might all familiar with this, is /ʃən/. Combining all together /ˌɔːr.i.enˈteɪ.ʃən/, /ˌɔːr.i.enˈteɪ.ʃən/.

Vocabulary

Def:to avoid someone intentionally, or to prevent someone from taking part in the activities of a group

Outro
There is a group of people who is asexual, but in the asexual group, there are also differences between each individual.
Isn't that amazing? The world is filled with lots of possibilities and diversity.
There might be different terms to define who we are, like homosexual, heterosexual,
asexual, or many other different names.
But the reality is that only we can define who we are.
This is the end of today's Pronunciation Challenge. I am glad to hear your recording every week! I am Mia, see you next time! Oh! Don't forget to check out this video to know more.
