Someone who accepts a lie believes something which is false, and trying to conduct your life on the basis of false information doesn't usually go well.
When was the last time someone greeted you with "How are you?" and you replied by telling them how you really felt? Most of the time, I do tell the truth and sometimes I do say "I’m alright." instead of "I’m great", but sometimes I do feel lazy and pretend that I’m okay because I just don’t want to get questioned about the details. Is lying about Santa Claus to a child an unethical act? How about family members lying to an old woman, not telling her that her son is dying of a critical car accident? They are doing this to prevent her from having an emotional breakdown. This type of lying comes from the intention of trying to help someone. Some people say it’s acceptable, some argue that it’s not. What do you think? Watch the video of the day and learn about the different views of utilitarian philosopher John Stuart Mill, and absolutist philosopher Immanuel Kant. But let’s take a break now and have a listen to our pronunciation challenge sentence.

Vocabulary
1. false (adj.) 虛假的;偽造的 KK[fɔls] IPA /fɑːls/ not true, but made to seem true in order to deceive people Example: The doctor was forced into early retirement after a false accusation was made against him. 那位醫生被誣告後被迫提前退休。

Did you know that kids as young as three years of age can start to tell lies? As kids grow older, they become better at lying and their lies get more complicated as they are better at communication and can understand better how other people think. So it seems to be an unfortunate fact that lying is human nature? Even though we know that most people tend to lie from time to time, I hope that we can educate our kids and stress the importance of honesty and consequences. Telling a lie may begin as something of a convenience, but it can grow bigger and bigger, sometimes until it’s so enormous it gets out of control. Also remember the lesson taught by the story “The boy who cried wolf” - if people start to know you as someone who regularly tells lies, it will be hard to gain their trust later on. Alright VoiceTubers, thanks for listening to my episode and don’t forget to record your challenge sentence. Until next time we meet, bye-bye!
