Intro:
G’day, VoiceTubers. Thank you for joining me. Today we are talking about water! Water is such an essential element of life on this planet. Every living thing needs water to survive. No wonder there are parts of the world where life does not exist. For example, some parts of the desert are so arid that no plant or animal life can survive.
There is a general assumption that we are supposed to drink around two litres of water every day to maintain good health. Apart from water, we can get our water intake from beverages such as juices, soft drinks, coffee, or tea. On average, one-fifth of our daily fluid intake also comes from the foods we eat. Here are some examples of water-rich fruit and vegetables which you should consider including in your diet. Cucumbers are made up of around 96% water. Tomatoes are made up of about 95% water. To my surprise, spinach is also made up of around 93% water (Very interesting)! Now, let’s take a break and check out our pronunciation challenge sentence:
Sentence:
The initial signs of dehydration are the obvious dry mouth, following which your urine becomes darker with a stronger odor, as your body attempts to conserve more fluids.
初期脫水會造成明顯的口乾舌燥,接下來尿液會顏色變深並伴隨強烈氣味,因為身體必須減少浪費水分。
Pronunciation Tips:
initial
dehydration
urine
odor
fluid

Vocabulary:
1. dehydration KK[͵dihaɪˋdreʃən] IPA//ˌdiː.haɪˈdreɪ.ʃən/
n. 脫水 a drop below normal levels of water in the body
Example:
The teacher reminds the students to drink lots of water before and after the PE class to avoid dehydration.
老師提醒學生們上體育課之前和之後都要喝很多的水,身體才不會脫水。

2. odor KK[ˋodɚ] IPA//ˈoʊ·dər/
n. (常指難聞的)氣味;臭味 a smell, often one that is unpleasant
Example:
The man that just stepped into the elevator has a really strong body odor (odour).
那位剛踏進電梯的男子有非常不好聞的體味。

3. fluid KK[ˋfluɪd] IPA//ˈfluː.ɪd/
n. 液體 a substance that flows and is not solid
adj. (情況、想法或計劃)不固定的,易變的 If situations, ideas, or plans are fluid, they are not fixed and are likely to change, often repeatedly and unexpectedly.

Example:
The plans for traveling abroad this summer are still very fluid.
今年夏天要出國的計畫仍然還很不確定。

Outro:
However, if you drink more water than your kidneys can handle, you can upset the balance of sodium levels in your blood. In some extreme cases, it can even cause brain damage, comas, etc. But this is very rare because most people actually never drink enough. Not drinking enough is a much more common issue, and it can lead to long-term side effects on our bodies. It can lead to headaches, constipation, and even weight gain. Staying hydrated is one of the best things you can do for your health, so remember to carry a water bottle with you, and stay hydrated throughout the day. Thanks guys for sticking around and don’t forget to record your sentence challenge. I’m your host Jenny and I’ll be back again next week. Bye bye!
