When I was a young kid, my parents got me a puppy. I was so happy, and played with him all the time. Everyone kept telling me how cute he was, and all the other kids wanted to play with him. There was just something about him that made everyone like him so much. Then after a few years, the puppy became a grown dog, and I noticed that people were not that interested anymore. Sure, occasionally someone would come to pet him, but it was nothing like the amount of attention he got as a puppy. I thought about this a few times since then, and I’ve noticed that the same thing happens with babies as well. People react differently when they see a baby or a toddler, and when they meet a teenager or an adult. So why are things cute and why do we react to cute animals or babies in a similar way? So as we can see from the video, almost everything can become cute, if we only change its proportions. I guess that’s also why a lot of the characters in the Pixar and Disney movies are drawn with such big eyes and faces. It makes them more relatable and adorable. I guess part of the reason everyone loved that puppy I had so much was because somewhere inside they felt the need to protect it. When a creature is small and helpless, we feel like defending it because us humans are nurturers by nature. Maybe that’s also why it’s hard to watch a lion or a crocodile catch a baby animal and eat it, even though this is a very natural behavior in the wild.
