How’s it going, everyone! Welcome back to the Pronunciation Challenge, it’s me, Hubert, your host for today’s episode. Today, I’ll be presenting a video about dating in the generation of dating apps!
I’m probably revealing my age here but I grew up during a period of major shifts. Before cell phones, I used to remember a lot of phone numbers! Now, I can’t even tell you my mom’s phone number off the top of my head. The dating game was especially different during this time! I used to call my crush’s home number hoping her mom/dad wouldn’t pick up. It was always so nerve- racking. Back then, we talked on the phone instead of texting. I remember I even fell asleep on the phone with my crush before. She probably heard me snoring which is quite embarrassing but also a sweet memory! We slowly built up feelings for our crushes but now? Now, we get ghosted if things don’t seem to be going right. People have too many options nowadays and everything is so quick! Ugh, let’s get to the featured sentence. I’ll tell you about my rejection story right after.

Before all these dating apps, I chased after girls the old-fashioned way. Through persistence and humiliation. There was a girl I had a crush on and the feeling seemed mutual (meaning she also felt the same way or at least it seemed like she did). I’d call her and talk for hours! We joked around and had great chemistry! She loved basketball like I did and I would fantasize that our love would be like an older movie called Love and Basketball. We saw each other for a month and then I made the big love confession. I told her how I felt and that I wanted us to officially become boyfriend and girlfriend! I thought it was a done -deal! No problem! She said she needed to think about it and after a day she told me that she just wanted to be friends. Rejected. So what was the point of my story? Well, I earned my rejection. She didn’t give me a reason why but I still learned a lot from this. I got to actually spend time with this girl and build a connection so I could kind of tell what went wrong. It was an experience and a memory. Nowadays? Swipe left. End of story.
