Hey guys! It’s another episode of Pronunciation Challenge with your host Hubert. Today’s video is about a topic that I’m a big fan of! Space and the mysteries of black holes. It would be a dream come true if I ever starred in a science fiction movie. One of my favorites would have to be Christopher Nolan’s, Interstellar. The film talks about black holes, wormholes and the concept of time! The mysteries of the galaxy have always fascinated me so that’s why I went with today’s video! The clip we’ll be watching is strictly about black holes and what could potentially happen if you were to enter one! I hope you guys find this video as entertaining as I did! For now, let’s move onto this week’s space theme featured sentence!
Today’s featured sentence: “Stars are incredibly massive collections of mostly hydrogen atoms that collapse from enormous gas clouds under their own gravity.”
I’ll say that again.
“Stars are incredibly massive collections of mostly hydrogen atoms that collapse from enormous gas clouds under their own gravity.”
Ok, now time for the Pronunciation Tips.
Pronunciation Tips:
First word. Incredibly (uhn·kreh·duh·blee) Four syllables. In - kreh - duh (like the phonetic sound of the letter D) blee (try saying the word “bleed” but without the “d”)
Next word. Hydrogen (hai·druh·jn) Three syllables. High (as in “how high can you jump?) druh - jin (like the drink “gin”)
Next up. Collapse (kuh·laps) Two syllables. Kuh ·laps (like you’re running “laps”)
Moving onto Vocabulary!
The first word is: 1. Massive (adj.) KK[ˈmæs.ɪv] IPA/ˈmæsɪv/ Defintion very large in size, amount, or number Used in a sentence you could say, “Did you eat all that? That sandwich was massive!”
Next word, 2. Enormous (adj.) KK[əˈnɔːr.məs] IPA[ɪˈnɔːməs] Defintion Extremely large An example would be, “I bought an enormous watermelon today!”
And lastly, 3. Collections (n.) KK[kəˈlek.ʃən] IPA [kəˈlɛkʃ(ə)n] Defintion: a group of objects of one type that have been collected by one person or in one place Used in a sentence you can say, “His collections of music are one of a kind.”
Outro Alright, alright, alright. That concludes today’s episode on intergalactic black holes! Being sucked into a black hole is a scary thought! From the video, at least we know it’d be a quick death! We might not even have time to feel any pain. It’s a humbling thought to see how small, us humans are, if we’re comparing ourselves to everything in the universe! Perhaps, our problems aren’t so big after all. I know today’s video contained a lot of complicated words and terms so I hope you followed along. If not, why not go back and watch it again! Only this time, make sure you do your recordings! Also, leave a recording about what you find interesting about the universe. I would love to hear your answers! Also, here’s a funny space related joke! What do you call money in space? Star bucks! Ha! Until next time folks, peace out!
