[Intro]

Hello, VoiceTubers. This is Annie. Welcome to today’s pronunciation challenge. First of all, let me ask you guys a question: do you think it’s possible to try new things for 30 days? Well, as the speaker in the video says, 30 days is just the right amount of time for you to add a habit or break an old habit. He also shares his own experience and ways about how to start a 30-day challenge. Are there any habits that you might want to achieve but never gotten the chance to do them? Go and check out the video, you might find it helpful. But first, let’s get into today’s sentence right away!

[Vocab]

1. badly

badly 為副詞,意思是「很,非常」,例如今日句子中的 want sth. badly,意思就是「很想要某物」,而 miss sb. badly,意思是「很想某人」,除此之外還會說 badly in need of sth. 來表示「很需要某物」。

Badly is an adverb used to emphasize how much you want or need sth. For instance, you can say ‘you want sth badly’, meaning you want that thing very much. Let’s check out the other sentence.

She missed her dad so badly [so very much] that she started to shed tears.
她太想她爸爸了,所以開始流淚。

2. figure out

figure out 為動詞片語,意思是「弄明白,想出」,例如:

Next word is the verb phrase: figure out. Figure out refers ‘to think about a problem or situation until you find the answer or understand what has happened.’ For example,

I’m trying to figure out a method to solve this problem.
我正在試著想出解決這項問題的方法。

figure out 後面可以加疑問詞 what/why/how,例如:

You can add question words such as what/why/how after this phrase. For example:

I still can’t figure out why she said those malicious words to me.
我想不通她為何要對我說出那些惡毒的話語。

The word ‘malicious’ means unkind and cruel.

例句中的單字 malicious 是形容詞,意思是「惡意的,惡毒的」。

3. enough

enough 作副詞,意思是「足夠地」,常會加在動詞、形容詞或副詞之後,以下舉兩個例句給大家:

Today’s final word is ‘enough’. Enough is an adverb referring ‘to the degree that is necessary or wanted’. It is usually used after a verb, adjective or adverb. There are two example sentences below.

Sally isn’t old enough to go to school.
Sally 還不到去上學的年紀。

If you’re determined enough, you can achieve anything.
如果你意志夠堅定,你可以完成任何事。

看完例句後,來補充一個與 enough 相關的片語吧!那就是 enough is enough,enough is enough 是口語上的用法,意思是「夠了,適可而止」,例如:

After going over two sentences, let me introduce a little phrase:‘enough is enough’. When you think something should not continue any longer, you can use this phrase. Also, this phrase is usually used in spoken English. Let’s take a look at the example.

Enough is enough! Can you please stop complaining? You’ve been complaining all day!
夠了!可以請你停止抱怨嗎?你已經抱怨一整天了!

[Outro]

Alright, that’s all for today’s pronunciation challenge. Is there anything you’ve always wanted to do? If you do, why not try to do that for the next 30 days? Leave your comments below and share with us the things you wanna do. Last but not least, this is my very last episode. Being a host here is a challenge for me. I know there’s room for improvement in my episodes, but I did try best to present every episode for you. Thank you guys for tuning in my episodes every week! And hope you can stick to practicing English every day! Speaking of challenges, what about a 30-day English challenge, here on VoiceTube. You'll be surprised where it takes you! See u!

☺I also figured out that if you really want something badly enough, you can do anything for 30 days.
■enough is enough < ph.> 夠了夠了!行了!適可而止!
