==>Remember my first episode of being host(n.主持) of pronunciation challenge, I remember going in, knowing almost nothing, and I try to make up a catchphrase(n.流行語), good times, good times. Then I left to go study, and came back working because of COVID, yeah, I remember that, too. Starting again was scary, I was so scared that people would not remember me. I thought back to past moments quite often, especially these days, because guys, this is my second to the last episode of pronunciation challenge, next week’s going to be the last one. Very sad, but also very exciting because there will be a new host. I will try to make my last episode extra special for you guys. Okay, back to today’s topic, today, we’re talking about nostalgia( [nɑsˋtældʒɪə]n.鄉愁,懷舊之情) which is a feeling of pleasure and also slight sadness when you think about things that happened in the past. All of us must have experienced this feeling before. If you want to know more about it, go watch the video, but before that, let’s practice today’s sentence: Commanders even forbade([fɚˋbed]v.禁止) their soldiers from singing traditional Swiss songs for fear that they'd lead to desertion([dɪˋzɝʃən]v.逃亡) or suicide([ˋsuə͵saɪd]n.自殺).

1. commander [kəˋmændɚ] (n.) an officer who is in charge of a military operation, or an officer of a particular rank in many countries' naval(/ˈneɪ.vəl/ a.海軍的) forces.

When I give out orders, I want to hear you reply: “Yes, Commander!” if you understand.

Three tenses of forbid：forbid / forbade [fɚˋbed] / forbidden [fɚˋbɪdn]
Mom forbade us to eat the candies in the jar after our dentist’s treat(n.治療).

3-2. forbidden [fɚˋbɪdn](adj.) not allowed, especially by law（尤指法律）禁止的，不准的
The door has a massive(a.巨大的) forbidden sign on it, I wonder what’s on the other side of it.

4. for fear (that) sth.
= for fear of sth. (ph.)
= because you are worried that a particular thing might happen 生怕，以免
I put on the safety helmet for fear that I’ll hurt myself while roller skating(滑輪溜冰).

5. desertion [dɪˋzɝʃən] (n.) the act of leaving the armed forces without permission 當逃兵，逃亡
Desertion can be punished by death during the war.
