【Transcript】

Our first story concerns a conflict involving Armenia and Azerbaijan, two countries located in southwestern Asia. Both countries won their independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, but even before that, they were fighting each other over a region that they both believe should be part of their territory. The region is called Nagorno Karabakh, which is located inside the borders of Azerbaijan, but most of the people who live there are Armenians. Nagorno Karabakh declared its independence from Azerbaijan in 1991 with the support from Armenia. Since then, the country and Azerbaijan continued to fight over the region until they declared a ceasefire (which means to temporarily stop fighting) in 1994. However, the fighting broke out again between both countries on September 27th, just a month ago.

In case you’re wondering, here's why this incident is internationally significant. To begin with, Russia supports Armenia, and Turkey supports Azerbaijan. That’s why, if the situation continues, larger countries may be involved in the fight, raising international tension. The UN, the EU, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO for short) and the United States have all called for Armenia and Azerbaijan to stop fighting immediately.

While we know fighting and revenge only bring more pain, sometimes we only need one thing to ease the pain and reduce our stress - music.

According to two professors at the University of Central Florida, music can reduce stress and pain, help with symptoms of depression, improve our thinking, and physical skills. Music is the language of the brain, stirring up feelings, thinking processes, and the motor system. People with severe memory disorders, when there is a musical memory trigger, they can remember the melody. Music can recreate some of the thinking, feelings and expression and muscle memory that we once had. Share the joy of music to your love ones today.
