Researchers also found that those most likely to be sitting too much were older, male, more educated but less wealthy, smokers, and those who have chronic illnesses.

1.
a. likely
-> those most likely to be sitting
= people that have the high chance of sitting too much
b. probable

PS Something that is likely or probable has at least
a 50% chance of happening.

ex That is the most probable outcome.
= That is the most likely outcome.
= There is the highest chance that this will happen
to be the outcome.
*outcome 結果

c. possible
*The range is much bigger.
-> It will definitely/surely happen.

2.
a. wealthy=rich= have a lot of money
b. affluent ~土豪
(is more often used in negative contacts.)
-> His campaign appealed primary to the most
affluent members of society.
= His campaign was liked the most/to welcomed
the most/was appealed the most to the richest
people of society.

c. well-off
(a little euphemistic to describe)
(a nicer way/a polite term to say)

3.
a. illness
(is the medical establishment prospective)
-> mental illness

b. sickness
(is society's perspective)

c. disease

But I still can't quite see the exact difference of "sickness" from the others. @@

Changing into a standing desk.

An epidemic of sitting.

Likely = probable

It's safe to say something that is "likely" or "probable" has at least a 50% chance of happening. That's a probable outcome and there's a good chance that will happen.

That is the most probable outcome that just means the most likely outcome. This is the highest change that this will happen.

It's not likely but it's "possible". There's a chance that will happen.

Affluent [ˋæflʊənt] (adj.) 富裕的 is more often used in the negative context. It's often talking about a group of people. For example, his campaign appealing primarily to the most affluent members of society.

Well-off is more euphemistic(委轉的). Ex: Is he rich? Yeah, he's quite well-off(the most neutral way to say someone is rich).

A "disease" is the medical-establishments perspective like a hospital or a clinic. It's the most official, diagnosed. Like when you're talking about cancer or diabetes.

A sickness is a society-perspective.

An illness is a way the patient sees their own condition being sick. Ex: A mental illness.
