I remember a story of mine that I will never forget

我記得一個我自己永遠無法忘記的故事

A couple years ago I was working with a couple friends

幾年前我跟兩個人朋友一起工作

we became good friends in the end

我們最終成了很要好的朋友

There was this time we had a camp event over the weekend, and we were supposed to show up at it

有一次我們在週末有一場營隊活動，我們必須要現身

But I had some stuff I had to take care of beforehand

但是我有些必須先做的事

So we agreed that they would go first. They would arrive during noontime.

於是我們同意說，他們就先去，他們大約中午就會抵達

And I would later meet up with them in the evening

而我會在晚上的時候跟他們碰頭

So I finished my work. I got on the express bus.

於是我完成了我的工作，我上了客運巴士

It was an hour's ride. I got off at the interchange.

一個小時的車程，我在交流道下車

And when I got there it was already dark outside

我到那的時候已經天黑了

I got my cellphone. I checked my Google map, and the campsite was around 3.5 kilometers away.

我拿出我的手機，看了一下Google Map，離營地距離有大約3.5公里

I thought to myself, "You know what? 3.5 kilometers, not a big deal. Let's just jog there."

我心想，「3.5公里，沒什麼大不了的，就跑步過去好了。」

It's gonna be good exercise

會是不錯的運動

I could save some money. Why not?

還可以省點錢，何樂而不為？

So I started jogging

於是我開始慢跑

The place was quite remote, but the scenery was beautiful, the weather was nice. I was enjoying it.

地方有點偏僻，但是風景很美，天氣很好，我很享受

At one point, I jogged past a fence

有一度我經過一扇柵欄

And I could see this big black dog sitting in front of a doghouse

我看見了這隻大黑狗坐在狗屋前

It was quite intimidating

有點嚇人

But I could see this chain to his collar, so I was thinking...

不過，我看到有一條鐵鍊繫在牠的頸環上，所以我想...

"Nah, he's not gonna come after me."

「哎唷，牠不會追過來的啦！」

But just to make sure I looked over my shoulder, just to check again

但為了確認好安心，我回過頭看了一下，再檢查一次

And I saw the other end of the chain just lying loose on the ground fixed to nothing

我看到鐵鍊的另一端，就這樣躺在地上， 沒有固定在任何東西上

In my mind, I was thinking...

在我的腦海裡，我心想...

"Darn it!"

「該死！」

The dog starts charging at me, and I'm like, "Oh my God, I'm dead..."

那條狗開始朝我衝過來，我心想「老天啊！我死定了...」

Wait! There's a fence.

等一下！有柵欄啊！

I forgot there's a fence!

我忘記了，還有柵欄！

The next thing you know, the dog slides right under the fence like he's some MI6 agent doing that Tom Cruise #

下一秒，只見牠從柵欄底下滑出來，好像自己是什麼MI6特務，像湯姆克魯斯搞特技一般

And he's on my tail chasing me probably thinking...

牠追在我後頭，心裡八成在想說...

Oh, you dumb human! You thought I was chained, huh?

「噢，你這蠢人類！你以為我被綁住了嗎？蛤？」

Well tough luck!l

「算你衰啦」

(ruff ruff)

(汪汪)

That dog was chasing the heck out of me. I was like...

那條狗把我追得快升天了，我整個人就像...

(Ah...)

(啊...)

Not the point

不是重點

I finally lose the dog

我終於甩掉牠

I arrived at the campsite

我到達了營地

It was pretty late so the gates were closed

有點晚了，所以大門都關起來了

I could hear people singing and chanting and laughing inside

我可以聽見人們在裡面唱歌、呼口號、大笑

So I started yelling...

於是我開始大喊...

Hey, it's me! Open the doors!

「嘿，是我！開門啊！」

Nobody hears me

沒人聽到

There's no doorbell. My friends weren't picking up... So what do you do?

沒有門鈴，朋友又都沒接... 該怎麼辦呢？

I tossed my backpack over the wall, climbed it, jumped right in.

我把背包扔過圍牆，爬上去並跳了進去

No big deal... had a lot of practice in high school

沒什麼大不了... 高中的時候練習很多

I was a good thing the police didn't see me cuz that would be a very awkward scene

幸好警察沒看到，不然那景象可就尷尬了

Anyways, I walk inside...

總之，我走進去...

I finally see my two friends, friend A and friend B

終於看到我的兩個朋友--A和B

My friend A sees me and she says...

朋友A看見我就說...

"Hey, you're here! How did you get here?

「嘿，你來啦！你怎麼來的？」

So I'm like, "Oh, I took the express bus

所以我就回說：「噢，我坐了客運」

I got off at the interchange, and I ran here. At some point I had to sprint."

「我在交流道下車，就跑了過來，有一度還用衝的...」

And she looks at me, and she's like...

她看著我，然後說...

"No, you didn't"

「最好是」

And I'm like, "what do you mean, 'I didn't.'?"

我就說：「什麼意思？為什麼最好是？」

She goes off saying...

她開口說...

We got off at the interchange, too

「我們也是在交流道下車的」

"We had to take a taxi to get here. It took us 10 minutes to get here."

「我們搭了計程車才到這的，花了十分鐘才到達的」

"There is no way you could have run here."

「你不可能跑過來的」

And I'm like, "Well first of all...

我就... 「首先...」

that taxi driver must have ripped you off."

「那司機一定是敲詐了你們」

Well I didn't actually tell her that, but second...

其實我沒有這樣跟她講啦... 但是第二呢...

"It was 3.5 kilometers. It's not a big deal.

「只不過3.5公里，沒有很難啊」

I run the distance all the time

「我經常跑這種距離」

I even got chased by this mad dog!

「我還被瘋狗追耶！」

Look at me! I'm all sweaty. How do you explain this?"

「妳看看我！我全身都是汗，這要怎麼解釋？」

I turn to my other friend, my friend B. And I'm looking for this sense of understanding, trying to convince her with my sincere eyes

我轉向我另一個朋友，朋友B，我試著從她身上尋找一份理解的感覺，試著用我真誠的眼神說服她

I'm like... "Come on! You got to trust me, right?

我就... 「誒 拜託！妳要相信我啊，對吧？」

Come on!...

「對不對！」

It's me!

「是我耶！」

And what happened next, I will not forget for the rest of my life

接下來發生的事，我畢生難忘

And to my friends. Yes, specifically you, A and B...

對於我的朋友們呢.. 是的，就是A和B你們...

I will talk about this story for the rest of my life...

我會用盡我一生來傳講這故事...

Because it's a good story!

因為它是個好故事啊！

And it helps me keep you in my memory

而且有助於把你們留在我的記憶裡

So friend A sees me trying to convince friend B

朋友A看到我試著說服朋友B

So she turns to friend B... and with this serious look on her face...

於是她轉向朋友B... 用很正經的表情...

Actually, she grabs her by the wrist, and she says...

事實上她抓住了她的手腕，並且說...

"How can you trust him?"

「妳怎麼可以相信他？」

"Don't let him trick you!"

「別被他騙了！」

"You know him!"

「妳又不是不知道他！」

And I'm like, "Hello, well I'm still standing here..."

我就... 「哈囉，嗯，我人還在站這呢...」

"You could like... wait until I leave, right?"

「你可以... 等我離開後再說吧，對吧？」

But in that moment, I had these two sudden, profound realizations of life

但在那瞬間，我突然得到了兩樣重大的人生體會

First of all, I really need to stop pranking my friends...

第一個，我真的得停止對我的朋友們惡作劇了...

like I'm losing credibility like...

我失去信用的速度就像是...

Second, which is most important of all. We need to get serious here.

第二，也是最重要的，這裡要嚴肅一點

People will never believe the things that they can't do themselves

人們永遠不會相信那些他們自己無法做到的事

People will never believe you've done something if they can't do it themselves

人們絕無法相信你做了某件事，因為他們自己做不到

People are gonna try to talk you out of things that they can't imagine themselves

人們會試著勸退你，如果他們自己無法想像那件事

It is said that only an 8 dan Go player can understand how good a 9 dan player is

有句話說 「只有圍棋八段的人能了解九段的高手有多麽厲害」

So quit the talking and do the walking

所以不要再講了，而是要去做

Sometimes you just gotta hush, and quietly do your thing

有時你就是得閉上嘴巴，然後安安靜靜地做你該做的事

Cuz one day, your deeds will prove themselves

因為有一天，你的行為會見證行為自己

And that is my story

這就是我今天的故事
