要愛和平,要愛每一個人 Dear sisters and brothers, 親愛的姊妹兄弟們 we realise the importance of light 當我們身處漆黑環境 when we see darkness. We realise the importance of our voice 當我們被迫噤聲了 when we are silenced. 便知道言論自由的可貴 In the same way, 同樣地 when we were in Swat, in the north of Pakistan, 當我們在 北巴基斯坦的斯瓦特時 we realised 我們也明白 the importance of pens and books when we saw the guns. 在戰火之下, 筆跟書本是多麼珍貴 The wise saying, 智者有云 "The pen is mightier than sword" was true. The extremists were and they are afraid of books and pens. The power of education frightens them. They are afraid of women. The power of the voice of women frightens them. 女性團結的聲音 力道大到使得他們膽怯 And that is why 這就是為什麼 they killed 14 innocent students in the recent attack in Quetta. 他們最近在奎達 殺害了 14 名無辜的學生 and this is why 這就是為什麼 they killed female teachers and polio workers 恐怖分子在開伯爾-普什圖 in Khyber Pukhtoon Khwa. That is why they are blasting schools every day. 這就是他們每天 燒毀學校的原因 Because they were 因為他們 and they are afraid of change, 從以前到現在 都害怕改變 afraid of the equality that we will bring into our society. 害怕我們將平等普及於全社會 And I remember 我記得以前 that there was a boy in our school 有記者採訪我們學校男生 who was asked by a journalist: 當時問了這樣的問題: "Why are the Taliban against education?" He answered very simply 那個男生簡單地 by pointing to his book, he said: 手指著他的書,然後說: "A Talib doesn't know what is written inside this book." 「因為他們不了解,書裡教了我們什麼」 They think 塔利班認為 that God is a tiny, little conservative being 神是個小小的、 有點守舊的存在 who would send girls to the hell 祂會因為女孩們去上課讀書 just because of going to school. 就送她們下地獄去 The terrorists 恐怖份子們濫用了 are mis-using the name of Islam and Pashtun society 伊斯蘭以及普什圖社會的名號 for their own personal benefits. Pashtuns want education for their daughters and sons. And Islam is a religion of peace, humanity and brotherhood. 伊斯蘭教一向 愛好和平、重視人道、待人如手足 Islam says 伊斯蘭說 it's not only each child's right to get education, 孩童上學受教育不只是一種權利 rather it is their duty and responsibility. 而且也是一種責任與義務 Honourable Secretary-General, 敬愛的潘秘書長 peace is necessary for education. In many parts of the world, especially Pakistan and Afghanistan, 世界上很多地方 尤其在巴基斯坦跟阿富汗 terrorism, wars and conflicts 恐怖主義、戰爭、 還有衝突 stop children to go to their schools. We are really tired of these wars. 我們真的對戰爭感到十分厭倦 Women and children 女性以及兒童 are suffering in many ways 在世界很多地方 in many parts of the world 受到各種不同的苦難折磨 In India, 在印度 innocent and poor children are victims of child labour. Many schools have been destroyed in Nigeria. People in Afghanistan have been affected 而極端份子數十年來 by the hurdles of extremism for decades. Young girls have to do domestic child labour 女孩是國內的童工來源 and are forced to get married at early age. 而且被逼得年紀很小就得結婚 Poverty, 窮困 ignorance, 無知 injustice, 不公不義 racism 種族主義 and the deprivation of basic rights 還有基本權利受到剝奪 are the main problems faced by both men and women. I am focusing on women's rights and girls' education 我聚焦於 爭取女權跟女童受教權 because they are suffering the most. 因為她們受到的迫害 最為嚴重 There was a time 當初曾經有過 when women social activists 女性社會運動者 要求男性 asked men to stand up for their rights. 為了女性的權利站出來 But this time, 不過現在 we will do it by ourselves. I am not telling men to step away from speaking for women's rights, I am focusing on women to be independent to fight for themselves. So dear sisters and brothers, 所以, 親愛的姊妹兄弟們 now it's time to speak up. 該我們出聲疾呼了 So today, 這個時候 we call upon the world leaders 我們呼籲 世界各國的領導人們 to change their strategic reject prejudice based on caste, 並抵制來自各方面的歧視, 例如種姓制度、 creed, 教條主義、 sect, 宗派、 color, 膚色、 religion, 宗教、 or gender 或性別 to ensure freedom and equality for women 來確保女性的平等與自由 so they can flourish. 讓女性得以蓬勃發展 We cannot all succeed 當女性的權利受阻 when half of us are held back. We call upon our sisters around the world 我們呼籲世界各地的姊妹們 to be brave, 要有勇氣 to embrace the strength within themselves 相信我們內在的力量 and realise their full potential. 能發揮出我們全面的潛能 Dear brothers and sisters, 親愛的兄弟姊妹們 we want schools and education 我們想要上學接受教育 for every child's bright future. We will continue our journey 這趟旅程 我們會一直持續 to our destination of peace and education. No one can stop us. We will speak up for our rights 我們將為自己的權利而吶喊 and we will bring change to our voice. 也將為我們的盼望帶來改變 We believe 我們相信 in the power and the strength of our words. Our words can change the whole world 我們的言論 可以改變這個世界 because 因為 we are all together, 我們齊聚一堂 united for the cause of education. And if we want to achieve our goal, 我們要想達成目標 then let us empower ourselves 且讓我們以知識為武器 with the weapon of knowledge 使自己充滿力量 and let us shield ourselves 讓我們齊心團結 with unity and togetherness. 才能保護自己 Dear brothers and sisters, 親愛的兄弟姊妹們 we must not forget 我們不能忘記 that millions of people are suffering 還有無數的人們正在 from poverty, injustice and ignorance. 貧困、不公與無知裡, 受盡苦難 We must not forget 我們不能忘記 that millions of children are out of their schools. 還有幾百萬個孩子無法上學 We must not forget 我們不能忘記 that our sisters and brothers 我們的姊妹兄弟們 are waiting for a bright peaceful future. So let us wage a global struggle 讓我們在全世界共同努力 against illiteracy, poverty and terrorism 一起消除文盲、對抗貧窮、 打擊恐怖主義 Let us pick up. Let us pick up our books and pens. They are our most powerful weapons. 這是我們最有力的武器 One child, 只要一個兒童 one teacher, 一位老師 one book, 一本書 and one pen 還有一支筆 can change the world. Education is the only solution. Education First.
