Hi, welcome to China Uncensored, 歡迎收看《中國解密》 I’m your host Chris Chappell. 我是主持人 Chris Chappell On Monday, 這個星期一 we witnessed the first of three US presidential debates 我們見證了希拉蕊與川普之間的 between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Now that I’ve mentioned Clinton and Trump, I’m sure a portion of you have stopped watching 我很確定有一部份的人已經停止觀看 and are busy attacking me in the comment section below. You've already started doing that before even watching this video. To those of you who’ve stayed: 給還留下來收看的人: After watching the debates, 看完辯論後 there was one clear winner… Democracy! That’s right. This has been a crazy election cycle 這是個瘋狂的大選週期 that has seen the United States 讓人見識到美國 more deeply divided than ever before. And it’s still better than what many people in the world have. 而這仍然比世界上許多人 所擁有的來得更好 In America, 在美國 we have a system where anyone can be president. 我們擁有一個 所有人都有機會成為總統的體制 Of course, 當然 that means anyone can be president. 那代表著任何人都可能當上總統 Still, 儘管如此 people with radically different ideas 想法南轅北轍的人們 can debate them freely on national television, 可以在國家電視上自由辯論 without censorship… 而不會遭到審查 …or even moderation. You know where you can’t do that? China! You know how the “president” of China gets “elected?” First, they have an internal power struggle 首先,中共高層內部 at the top levels of the Communist Party. Whoever survives the purges rises to the top. And then that group selects among themselves 然後這群人從他們自己當中 who the leader of the Communist Party should be. Then the Communist Party tells China’s rubber-stamp congress 然後中共告訴中國的橡皮圖章國會 who to vote for, 要選誰 and surprise surprise, 接著,「出乎意料」的 that person gets “elected” president. Then it gets announced to the public. So what an embarrassing contrast for the Chinese Communist Party 所以對於中共來說 看到美國總統候選人 to have US presidential candidates debating so freely! 但不用怕 They have a solution: 他們有個解決辦法: Don’t let Chinese people watch it. 不要讓中國人民看到就好 Yes, 是的 the America’s presidential debate was censored in China. 美國總統大選辯論在中國被禁播 China Digital Times uncovered this leaked censorship directive 《中國數字時代》 揭露了這份流出的審查方針 that pulled the plug on the debate, 方針阻止這場辯論的轉播 saying no news service is allowed to livestream it. 所有通訊社都不准同步直播 Even state-run CCTV’s livestream 連官媒央視的直播畫面 “went black shortly after the debate began.” Same goes the two biggest Chinese news websites. And with Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter already banned in China, 而臉書、YouTube 跟推特 在中國早已被禁 you weren’t going to see it there, either. So as more than 80 million Americans tuned in to watch the Battle Royale, 當八千萬名美國人 正鎖定觀看這場大戰時 in China, 在中國 people had state-run media to tell them their opinions for them! And if you missed the debate, 假如你因為你的極權政府禁止 because your totalitarian government censored it, 而錯過了這場辯論 don’t worry. My favorite state-run media Global Times assures us it was trite. And this is just the latest in a long line of presidential censorship. For more on that, here’s Shelley Zhang... 想了解更多 這裡是 Shelley from 8 years ago! US President Barack Obama’s inauguration address on Tuesday 美國總統歐巴馬星期二的就職演說 was broadcast live around the world. But for Chinese state media, 但對於中國官媒來說 some of his comments apparently hit too close to home. Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism, 回想先前的世代 力抗法西斯主義和共產主義 not just with missiles and tanks, 靠的除了飛彈和戰車之外 but with the sturdy alliances 還有強固的聯盟 and enduring convictions. As soon as the translator said the word “communism,” 當譯者一講到「共產主義」這個詞 the live broadcast from China's main propaganda station, 中國主要宣傳平台 CCTV, faded out the audio. 央視在實況轉播時切入靜音 And embarrassingly, 很糗的是 the anchor was caught totally off guard. Which didn’t happen with Monday’s debate— 這沒有在週一的辯論上發生 because, again, 因為,再一次的 the Chinese Communist Party just censored the entire thing. And they’re still a bit worried about these debates. 而他們對於這些辯論仍然有些擔心 Because despite their efforts, 因為儘管他們這麼努力 people in China still figured out how to watch. 中國人民仍然找到方法收看辯論 China’s version of Twitter, 中國版的推特 Weibo, 微博 somehow was able to livestream the debate to nearly a quarter million people. And that’s because more and more, 而那是因為 people in China are showing an interest in US elections. Chinese state-run media has been telling people that the 中國官媒都告訴人民 Western-style democracy is dangerous and chaotic. But China’s middle class is increasingly making their own observations— 但中國有越來越多的中產階級 做出他們自己的觀察 as Chinese tourists travel to every corner of the globe, 隨著中國遊客到地球的每一個角落旅行 and more and more people figure out how 越來越多人找到辦法 to get around China’s Internet firewall. So if you’re still watching, 所以假如你還在收看 and not busy angrily accusing me of bashing your favorite— 沒有忙著生氣的指控我 批評你最愛的 or least un-favorite candidate— 或最不討厭的候選人 I’d like to end with this: 我想要以此作結: At least we can all watch the debate on TV, 至少我們都可以在電視上收看辯論 and type our uncensored comments below. Chris Chappell see you next time.
