I took a train to Shanghai to a high-speed train to Qufu to explore the ancient temple of Confucius and meet up with my guide, Howard told me all about the hand painted artwork and calligraphy and showed me hidden spots the temple. While we were there a ceremony was held in honor of Confucius. it was pretty special but even if you can't make it to the ceremony you can still catch students asking Confucius for good luck and good grades on their exams. After the temple it was time to go into the forest. Confucius and his descendants are buried here in over 200 acres of pine and cypress trees. The forest is over two thousand years old and feels peaceful and sacred and helps give perspective on how ancient Shandong, china really is. But china isn't just history, it's also adventure. Like hiking to the top of Taishan. 7000 steps built in 3rd century BC it's not for the faint of heart but the scenery is worth it. We are literally in the clouds. Summiting the mountain is suppose to get travelers immortality and I'm not sure about that but you can't beat the views, especially at sunrise. Sleeping at the top of Mount Tai to catch sunrise in the morning was gorgeous and so was the ride in the cable car the next day. Should you decide hiking stuff for you, you can take the cable car up or down either way. At the base of TaiShan is Tai'an and beautiful East GatePark. The greenery and lotus flowers are stunning, the whole place is right out of the picture book. We hopped another high-speed train to Qingdao, a modern city by the sea. Fresh ocean air and an artistic twist, Qingdao really lights up at night. Street vendors sell all sorts of light up toys and it looked like something out of a futuristic amusement park It's a pretty cool place to spend a night or two. Qingdao isn't just new, it also has some ties to the past. I spent the day at last a secret mountain just outside the city. With breathtaking views and another pretty hike, it was the perfect way to spend my last day Shandong. So that's it, that's all. That's my week. It was so fun! What about you guys? Do you want to go to China? Have you been to China? Let me know in the comments below?
