  • Hi friends, I am Niharika. Well, in today's lesson we are gonna learn how to express shock.

    嗨!朋友們!我是Niharika。在今天的課程中,我們要來學表達驚訝的英文片語

  • There are situations, unexpected situations where we have no clue what to say.

    人生總是會有一些無法預料的事情讓我們無言以對

  • Be it native speakers or English learners, we do fall short of words. So in this lesson today we are gonna

    不管是英文母語者還是學習者,我們都會有無言以對的時候。所以,在這堂課程,我們將要

  • help you with some phrases to express shock. But before I go ahead and help you with these

    學幾個表達震驚的英文片語。但在之前,我要先提醒你們兩個

  • phrases, let me tell you that shock and surprise, two different things.

    字,shock和surprise指的是不一樣的東西

  • Because people you know, when they are shocked they tend to say 'I am so surprised' That is incorrect.

    你們都知道,人們嚇到的時候,都會說「我好興奮!」,但這是錯誤的

  • Shock is a negative thing. Okay? So, shock is an emotional strong feeling when something negative happens. Ok?

    Shock(驚訝)指的是較負面的事情,形容一件不好的事情發生、一個較強烈的感觸

  • whereas surprise is more towards positive situation. Okay, so keep that in mind and now let's get started

    而surprise(驚喜)指的是較正面的事情。要記得這一點,那我們就可以開始囉!

  • The very first one that I have for you is - The news came as a complete shock.

    第一個驚訝片語是-The news came as a complete shock(聽到這件事時,整個人都嚇壞了)

  • So probably you were shocked to hear something, maybe someone died and the person who died

    所以,你們聽到某件事情,可能是有人死掉或是一位

  • was just 30 years old. So yes, it is shocking , right! So, the news came as a complete shock.

30歲的年輕人死掉,整個人感到錯愕。所以,the news came as a complete shock

  • So, this is one of the phrase that you can use.

    這是第一個你們感到震驚時可以說的片語

  • The second one that I have for you is - We are completely taken aback. So this is another way to express shock.

    第二個表達震驚的片語是-We are completely taken aback(我們都嚇了一大跳)。這是另外一個表達震驚的說法

  • So probably something really bad happened, may be you have a factory

    有一件非常不幸的事情發生,可能你們的工廠

  • and there was fire last night and it is shocking and of course it is depressing too.

    昨晚發生火災,你們感到驚訝又沮喪

  • So when you are discussing with people you not just gonna be stunned and look at their faces and you don't express your shock,

    所以,當你們跟別人聊天時聽到這樣的消息,你們不是用嚇呆的臉看著他們來表達你們的錯愕

  • you gotta say something. So the right thing to say is we are completely taken aback by this -

你們必須要有所回應。所以,你們可以說:we are completely taken aback by this

  • means you are shocked. I was just stunned. Probably you caught your

    指的是你們感到非常的錯愕和驚訝。又或許你們可能看到你們

  • friend's husband with another woman. He's cheating - so it's shocking right,

    朋友的老公和一位女性走在一起。他出軌-就是這種驚訝感

  • you are completely taken aback, " I was just stunned to see him with another woman'

    you are completely taken aback,「我對於他老公背叛的行為感到錯愕」

  • So you were shocked to see him with another woman. So that's how you can use this.

    你們錯愕他竟然背叛你們的朋友。你們可以這樣運用這一個片語

  • Another one - It's unbelievable. Okay, It's unbelievable. Well, of course, when something bad happens you are just not ready to believe it.

    另一個是-It's unbelievable(這件事令人無法置信)。當然,你們沒有想過會發生這樣的悲劇

  • Right? That's how our heart is, we don't want to believe that something negative can really happen.

    這就是我們的心如何感受到的,我們都不願意相信這樣的悲劇會發生

  • But yes, there are situations that are really bad, that's how life is. So

    這些事情是不好的,但在生活中也是免不了要面對的。所以

  • it's unbelievable. Keep it simple, don't express too many things, just say " Oh my God, that's just

    it's unbelievable。簡單扼要,不要過度地表現情緒,只要說:「喔!我的天啊!這真的

  • unbelievable." So may be your friend who always showed that she had a wonderful marriage,

    非常難以相信」。例如你們的朋友,在你們面前總是一對幸福鴛鴦

  • she was very happy with her husband but now they have declared that they are filing for a divorce.

    一直都讓人覺得他們很幸福,但現在他們都承認他們在辦離婚

  • So, you are really shocked. So it's just unbelievable. Really, Sharon is filing

    而你們感到非常的錯愕、難以置信。真的嗎?Sharon在辦

  • for divorce? So you are shocked. It's not a good thing, it's not a surprise for you but you are shocked.

    離婚?你們都錯愕不已。這不是件好事,你們也可能預料到,但你們仍感到錯愕

  • The next one - words can't describe how I feel about this.

    下一個是-words can't describe how I feel about this(我無法用言語表達我對這件事的感覺)

  • so whatever the situation is, talk about it.

    不管什麼樣的情況,就講這個片語

  • And you know it's just simple, when you are falling short of words, you don't know what to say.

    你們也知道,這個片語在你們無言以對時,可以用到的

  • Probably these phrases don't come to your mind then you can say "Words can't

    有時候你們不會想到白板上這些片語,你們就可以說「Words can't

  • describe how I feel about this" So just don't get into any other phrases, just keep it simple

describe how I feel about this」,不要想太多,可以說:

  • - Words can't describe how I feel about this. And then the next one - There is no way it

-Words can't describe how I feel about this。下一個- There is no way it

  • could have happened. When do you use this statement?

    could have happened(這不可能發生)。哪時候可以用到這片語?

  • When something you could have not imagine that can happen, like the earthquake in Nepal. Probably it's

    你們無法置信時,像是尼泊爾發生地震。這應該是

  • just unimaginable. When you heard the news about this earthquake you were really shocked,

    難以想像到的事情。所以,當你們聽到有關地震的新聞時,你們會感到很震驚

  • right? You could have never imagined. So to express the shock you would say ' there is no way it could have happened'

你們可以說:「 there is no way it could have happened」來形容你們的錯愕

  • Someone told you or someone mentioned that this woman has cancer, she is just 20 years old and she has cancer so you are shocked,

    你們得知,那位20歲的女孩得了癌症,你們非常的震驚

  • it's unbelievable.

    無法置信

  • You cannot even imagine something could happen to this woman ever, so use this statement.

    你們無法想像在這個年紀的女孩竟然會得到癌症,所以,你們可以用到這句片語

  • So these are some phrases that will help you to express shock and now let's have a look

    你們可以用這些片語來表達震驚,現在我們再來看

  • at phrases that will help you talk about how pathetic or how bad something is.

    幾個片語,用來形容事情有多糟糕

  • So here are three phrases that you can use to talk about how bad something is happened.

    這裡有三個方式你們可以表達事情有多嚴重

  • The very first one - It's awful. Now you are shocked but now after expressing shock

    第一個- It's awful (這真糟糕)。在表達完你們有多震驚後

  • you gotta use some more words to talk about it further. It's awful. Okay so maybe

    你們需要再更進一步的描述你們的感受。 It's awful。可能

  • someone died at a very young age, so you said that, It's unbelievable, okay so but to continue talking about it..

    有人很年輕就死掉了,所以你們會說:「這令人難以置信‧‧‧」,但你們還要繼續說:

  • It's awful. The second one - What a terrible news.

    It's awful。第二個是- What a terrible news(真是一點都不好的消息)

  • You are shocked, words can't express how you feel about it, you have already expressed that you are shocked

    你們很震驚、無言以對,你們已經表達出你們的震驚

  • but now you gonna talk a little further. So what a terrible news, okay. And then the third one,

    但你們還要再講多一點,像是接上what a terrible news。第三個是

  • It's a tragedy, so something really bad has happened, its devastating for someone,

    It's a tragedy(這真是個悲劇),所以有件非常不好的事情發生,深深地傷害了某人

  • so of course as I said, with shock comes depression as well. So it's a tragedy. So these three

    所以,我會說,先震驚然後是沮喪。it's a tragedy。所以,這三個

  • are very common and everyone understands when you use these words to describe when something bad is happened.

    是非常常見的用法。用這些字詞,大家都會知道情形有多糟

  • And then I have three more phrases for you here, that you can use

    然後,下面還有三個片語,你們可以用來描述

  • for the after effects, you are shocked, okay, you have described, you have expressed how bad you feel about it and

    你們震驚之後所帶來的結果。你們已經表達了情況有多糟,而

  • now the after effects. So the very first one - To come to terms with, now to come to terms with,

現在是這件事情所帶來的結果。第一個是- To come to terms with(慢慢習慣),而

  • it means to accept. So this boy who died at a very early age ... you know

    意思是指接受或習慣。有一個小男生死掉了‧‧‧你們知道的

  • the mother has come to terms with his death. So you know she has accepted that, Yes!

    這個媽媽會慢慢習慣他不在的事實,她接受並習慣了。對!

  • Her son is no more. So these are the after effects. The second one - To give moral support.

    她兒子過世了。這是之後所受到的結果。第二個是-To give moral support(給予精神上的支持)

  • Okay when something bad happens, you are shocked, the news is terrible it's

    當壞事發生時,你們會震驚的說:這件事真是糟糕,但是

  • important for you to give moral support to someone. So to give moral support is to sympathize and to be with that person.

    給予他人精神上的支柱是非常重要的。所以,to give moral support 意思是同情他人所受到的傷害

  • So that's how you can use this phrase

    所以,這個片語可以這樣用

  • and then the last phrase that I have for you can use is - To be prepared or To be better prepared.

最後一個諺語是-To be prepared or To be better prepared(變得有準備或是有萬無一失的準備)

  • So you use this phrase when you have learnt a lesson , something bad happened and you have learned a lesson out of it.

    這個片語是用在壞事發生後你有學到教訓,你因為壞事而上了一課

  • So you should be or will be better prepared, so that's how you can express when you have learned a lesson.

    所以,上完這堂課,你們應該變得更有準備,之後你們就知道要怎麼回應

  • Alright, so probably there was an earthquake or there

    所以,可能發生地震或是火災之後

  • was a fire, you have learned a lesson now, it's important for you to be well prepared or better prepared for these kind of situations. So,

    你們學到教訓,所以要因此變得更有準備、更能夠應付這些狀況

  • go ahead use these, these are very very

    盡情的用這些說法,這些都是非常非常

  • simple phrases , express shock , don't just express it on your face, use words as well

    簡單表達驚訝的片語。不要只有驚訝表情而已,也要說點話

  • and I will be back with a new lesson, till then you take care.....

    之後在新課程見面,你們保重!
