Maybe a birthday bash, maybe an anniversary bash, a house warming party and so on. Now, probably a friend of your was invited and she didn’t make it for the party and the next day she meets you and asks how was the party? How would you describe the party to her? Or, probably your parents called you and said “Oh you went for the party, how was it”? How would you describe it? Well, that’s what we are gonna learn. We gonna look at some phrases in today’s lesson that will help you to describe the party that you attended. The very first thing that we are gonna look at is, What did you do? So, many people will come and ask you , “so what did you do at the party?” Now, the things that you do or the things that we commonly do at a party are : Chatted up with friends, so you gonna say oh we chatted up with friends. You meet friends, you meet new people or probably you just want to catch up on the news and because probably you are meeting your friends after a long time so, “nothing much I just chatted up with friends. Okay! So this is one thing that you did at the party. What are the other things that you do at the party? Well, danced all night long. So probably the music was absolutely fantastic and you couldn’t stop dancing, you danced all night long. Well, I do that because I totally love dancing, so I danced all night long. So, Yes if you are also a great dancer or probably you just enjoy dancing then you danced all night long is what you will mention to your friend. Had couple of drinks. Of course, when you go for a party you are not just gonna sit, you gonna drink , you gonna eat . SO you gonna talk about the food that you ate, the kind of appetizers that were there or the kind of drinks that were there at the party. SO you would say, well I had couple of drinks, I had lots of stuff to eat. So, this is the way you will talk about drinking and eating. Flirted or Socialized. Okay , If you are single, then the very first thing that boys especially look forward is to spot some good looking girl. And if they are attracted to the girl, they flirt. Right? All boys do, don’t worry boys girls do that too. So, you flirted, I flirted with a very good looking guy or I flirted with a beautiful girl at the party. Now, if you don’t get a chance to flirt or if you didn’t spot a good looking girl or a guy then you socialize. Well, you meet new people at the party, so you socialize with the people. You know, you just meet new people and have different types of small talks with them. So you either flirt or socialize. So these are couple of things that you do at a party. Now, the next is How was the music? Of course when you are attending a party some kind of music will be played, right? If someone asks you how was the music out there? Right up my street. This phrase can be used if the music is what you like. The music that was played is your favorite. Right up my street is something or some kind of music that you like. And, especially if you like that kind of music, whatever music that was played you would dance, you would sing, you would have a great time. So use this phrase It was right up my street. Next, It was upbeat , it was rocking. So how was the music, well it was upbeat means it was really nice, the beat, the rhythm was just perfect or it was absolutely rocking, which means the party was great because of the music. So either it was upbeat or it was rocking. Now lets have a look at some more phrases. Another common question that people ask is - How was the atmosphere? so it means that the party where you went to , how was the atmosphere out there. So you can say " It was laid back or It was chilled out,so laid back or chilled out it means that people were just casually having a good time, you know they were enjoying their drinks so it was not very you know... the music was great or people were just dancing and it wasn't a wild or loud party, it was pretty laid back and it was chilled out , so many at times its not necessary that the party has to be wild at time you know people really enjoy being little laid back or you know little chilled out when they go for a party. So, It was laid back or chilled out. Now if it was not laid back or chilled out, it was electrifying, now electrifying means it was wild , it was thrilling okay, in fact you can use all the three words, you can either say " Oh! the party was absolutely electrifying or it was wild, it was thrilling" okay so it means absolutely crazy. Then, How was the decor? Now, many a times when you go for a party, people tend to decorate the place, either their house or the banquet where the party is, or wherever the party is organised people tend to decorate it. So, if you found the decor pretty interesting or pretty cool then you can use the words like , It was funky, funky means it was quiet interesting. Something which is very different and very interesting, it's funky or it's cool, the decor was absolutely cool. A bit tacky, well tacky is a negative word, so if you think that, tacky decor was pretty cheap or it was not great at all, then it was a bit tacky, decor was a bit tacky, so remember that the word tacky is a negative word. And the last one, it was themed, now you know usually for birthday parties people like to play with themes okay so either they have like a Hawaii theme or you birthday parties for little kids, they have a cartoon theme, so if it was a themed party then mention what theme was it okay, so probably it was a Hawaiian theme party or it was a neon themed party well, a neon themed party is where people have to dress up in neon colors, like the loud green, the loud pink, loud orange so that's neon party or Pool parties are themed parties, because they are at the pool, people are dressed up in their swim suits, in their bikinis or boys are dressed p in their trunks so that's a pool party, but again it is also called as a themed party. So, mention the theme, what theme was it, so these are the words or the phrases that you can use to describe a party. Now remember it's not necessary that people will put up questions like, how was the atmosphere? How was the decor? People will just simply ask you , How was the party that you attended? So, maybe you can go in a sequence and talk about where and when the party was, you can talk about what did you do at the party and then you can talk about what kind of music was there, what was the atmosphere like and what was the decor like, okay so you can go in a sequence, so not necessary that people will ask you specifically, how was the decor? or how were the people out there? okay but you will be able to describe the party if you have gone through this lesson. I will be back with a new lesson, the next time you attend a party let me know how was the party, I wait for your answers and I will be back, till then you take care and have a great day
