I pretended I was super confident. I tried to relax how I was standing, I tried to relax my voice, I went outside beforehand just to do 我事先去外面深呼吸並放鬆自己 some breathing, and to relax myself, 我事先去外面深呼吸並放鬆自己 and it ended up going really, really well. So how can this apply to you? Not only are you nervous about speaking to someone, 你不但會為跟別人說話感到緊張 but it's also not your native language. You need to pretend that you're confident. You can try lowering your voice slightly. So instead of speaking up here, really nervously, 所以不是像這樣講緊張得說話 you will speak in a low voice, 而是低聲說話 and have it echo across the room. (laughs) 並讓回音在整個房間環繞 (哈哈) Work on your posture, feet apart, nice and tall, 站好你的姿勢 雙腳分開 漂亮又高大 shoulders relaxed, really show the other speaker 肩膀放鬆 確實展現出 that you're comfortable being there. And as I said before, don't tell anyone you're shy, 正如我之前所說 不要告訴任何人你很害羞 because sooner rather than later, 因為遲早 you will start to feel more confident, 你會開始感到更自信 you probably won't even realise it, 你可能甚至都沒有意識到 and then you might regret having told someone 然後你可能會後悔告訴某人 that you're a shy person. It doesn't have to be that way. You don't have to be shy. The next tip I have for you is listen, 我給你的下一個技巧是 聆聽 and learn from other confident speakers. When I try out a new hobby, I often want to see how an expert does it. If you really want to learn how to be more confident, 如果你真的想學習如何變得更自信 and how to speak more confidently, 以及如何更自信地說話 you need to listen to experienced and confident speakers. Make it part of your daily routine. Once you've found somebody 一旦你找到了某個人 and pinpointed who you want to sound like, 並精準找到你想聽起來像誰 try and imitate them a little bit. Make it your own, but take elements of their confidence 把它變成你自己的 但要學習他們信心 and elements of their speech. For example, I really, really like 例如 我真的非常喜歡 and admire the way Stephen Fry speaks. So, I make a point to listen to him speaking frequently. A great way that you can implement listening 一個可以實現每天花一點點時間 to a confident speaker for a little bit of time 聆聽一個有自信的演講者 every single day, is by listening to audiobooks. Audible You can click the link in the description box 您可以在下面點擊該連結 to get a free audiobook, that's a 30-day free trial. I really, really recommend listening to Stephen Fry 我真的,真的推薦 聽Stephen Fry narrating the Harry Potter series, 講述哈利波特的系列 or you could try listening to books on public speaking, 或者你可以嘗試聽關於公開演講的書籍 or books on eliminating and combating shyness. I've got some recommendations 我有一些建議 in the description box as well. 也放在描述框中 Tip number three, 技巧三 this is something that I've spoken about before, 這就是那個我以前說過的 but I 100% recommend it. It is, rehearse and prepare 就是 排演和準備 your best stories and monologues, 你最好的故事和獨白 and things that you know you will have to say 還有那些你知道你不得不一次又一次重複說的事情 time and time again. Make a habit of talking to yourself 養成與自己交談的習慣 and practising your best stories, 並準備你最好的故事 and the answers to the most frequent questions. Where are you from, what are your hobbies, "你來自哪裡?" "你的興趣是什麼?" what's your job, what would you like to do in the future? "你的工作是什麼?" "你將來想做什麼?" Tell me about yourself, that's such a big one. "介紹一下你自己" 這個最常遇到 And it makes me feel nervous when someone 當有人用我的語言問我這些問題的時候 asks me that in my own language, 就會讓我覺得很緊張了 so I can only imagine how hard it is for you, 所以我只能想像這對你們來說有多難 especially if you're shy. Practise it, maybe even write it down at first, 練習它 或甚至先寫下來 and then practise it until you know it off by heart. You don't want to know it word for word, 你不用一字一句地記下來 you just want to know 你只要知道 that when somebody asks you that question, 當有人問你這個問題時 you know what to say, and you can say it with confidence. I also said, practise your favourite stories. These are great ways to fill gaps in conversation. I've got a few funny ones that I've told in videos, 我有幾個有趣的 我在之前影片中講過 like my waitressing mistakes, 像我的女服務生犯的錯 or the lovely story about my dad's fairy book. Links to those are also in the description box. Those are stories that I like to tell at dinner parties, 那些是我喜歡在晚宴上說的故事 and people like being around good storytellers, 而人們喜歡圍繞在會說好故事的人身旁 so it's really, really important 所以這真的非常重要 to learn how to tell a good story. And treat each time you tell a story as practise. Did they react well to what you said? Did they find it boring? Make the necessarily tweaks. Then, after 20 times of telling this story, 然後 在講這個故事20次之後 hopefully to different people each time, 最好每次是對不同的人 try not to repeat yourself, (laughs) 盡量不要重複的人(哈) you will tell it beautifully. Right, my next tip is practise asking questions. Learning how to say questions correctly is so important, 學習如何正確的用英文問問題是如此重要 but also quite difficult in English. But it's so important for shy people, 但這對害羞的人來說卻非常重要 because it means that if you need a break from speaking, 因為這意味著 如果你在談話中需要休息一下 you can pass the baton to the other person. Examples, so how did you get into your career path? Or, if you could do one thing differently, 或者 "如果你能以不同的方式做一件事" what would you do? "你會怎麼做?" That opens up an opportunity for the other person 這給對方開闢了一個機會 to tell their story, and to talk a bit, 講述他們的故事 並談一談 so you can have time for a rest. Most people enjoy talking about themselves, 大多數人都喜歡談論自己 and they also appreciate good listeners. And you can be both of those by asking questions. The only thing you have to do is learn 你唯一要做的就是學習 and remember how to ask them correctly. I always have a couple of questions up my sleeve, 我總是有幾個收藏的問題 so that if I'm feeling nervous or shy, 所以 如果我感到緊張或害羞的話 I can quickly ask someone something, 我可以很快問別人問題 and we can continue the conversation that way. And, there's no pressure on me. Number five is don't take yourself too seriously. The best way to bond with people is to laugh, 和人們相處的最好方法就是笑 and especially to laugh at yourself. If I feel shy about something, 如果我對某事感到害羞 sometimes I make a joke about it. I remember when I was learning Spanish, I was so embarrassed about making mistakes, 我對我犯的錯誤感到很尷尬 but actually, those mistakes ended up 但實際上,那些錯誤最終變成了 being my funniest stories in Spanish. If you speak Spanish, and you want to hear about my funny, 如果你會說西班牙語 你想要聽我那有趣的事情 or at least I think they're funny, (laughs) 至少我認為蠻有趣的(笑) Spanish mistake stories, 西班牙語錯誤的故事 and such (speaking in foreign language). 是這樣的...(外語) And I'll leave the link in the description box. I laugh at myself, basically, 基本上 我嘲笑自己 for a full 10 minutes. They are such a powerful tool. Not only do you learn from them, 你不僅可以從中學習 but you can also create comedy from them. But if you're quite obviously uptight 但如果你顯然地很緊張 and really embarrassed about your mistakes, 並且對你犯的錯誤感到真的很尷尬 it puts the other person, or your audience, 這會把對方 或你的觀眾 in a really awkward situation. You don't want people cringing for you, 你不希望別人為你感到畏縮 you want people to feel comfortable 你希望人們感到舒服 that they can laugh along with you. Keep a note of all these funny mistakes that you've made, 記下所有這些你做過的有趣錯誤 and then maybe one day, 然後也許有一天 you can meet somebody else that's shy, 你可以遇到其他也很害羞的人 when you're already fluent in English, 當你已經精通英語時 and you can make them feel better and tell them 你可以讓他們感覺更好 並告訴他們 about your ridiculous experiences. Number six, meet and talk to as many 第六點 盡可能與越多不同的人見面和交談 different people as possible. In your life, you are going to meet so many people 在你的生活中 你將會見到這麼多 that you will never, ever meet again. So if you do embarrass yourself in front of them, 所以 如果你在這些人面前為自己感到尷尬 if the worst does happen, it doesn't matter. You might think about it again, 你可能會再思考一次 they might think about it again, 他們可能也會想一下 but if you don't ever see them again, it doesn't matter! Take the opportunity to speak with strangers, 藉此機會跟陌生人說話 to go out and meet people, 出去見人 to talk to as many different people as possible. Confidence for shy people comes with practise. An example, I never really made 一個例子 我之前從來沒有真正教過自己的朋友 my own friends before, as an adult. I always just had friends from childhood, 我常常只有來自童年時期的朋友 or friends that I shared with my partner, 或者我和我的伴侶共同的朋友 and when I moved to this village, I was new, 而當我搬到這個村子 我是新來的 my fiance was new, we didn't know anyone, 我的未婚夫是新來的 我們不認識任何人 but I really wanted to make friends. But I felt really shy. But we started going out sometimes together, 但我們開始一起出去 sometimes apart, and making real efforts to talk to people. If we recognised someone, we would say hello. I would sometimes pop to the coffee shop 我有時會自己去咖啡店 on my own and talk to the people there. Or go to the pub and see the same people 或者去夜店然後看到一樣的人 over and over again, and get to know them very, very slowly. At first, it felt really awkward, and I felt really shy. But now we just really enjoy being able 但現在我們真的很享受 to go anywhere in our village and know people. Had we allowed ourselves to be naturally shy, 如果我們允許自己天生的害羞 as we are, that wouldn't have happened. It was by practising speaking 這就是通過練習跟 to as many different people as possible, 盡可能多的人對話 that we felt confident. Right, that's it for today's lesson. I hope you enjoyed it, 希望你喜歡 and I really hope you learned something, 而且我希望你能學到一些東西 and I really hope that you're going 而且我真的希望你能去 to make more effort to feel less shy, 努力讓自己更不害羞 or at least seem less shy, until you become less shy. Don't forget to check out Audible, Audible you can get your free audiobook and 30-day free trial, 你可以得到你的免費有聲書 和30天免費試用 in the description box. I've also got all of the other links I've mentioned, 我放了所有的我提到的其他連結 and please do comment down below 請在下面評論 with any other tips and recommendations 提供任何其他技巧和建議 that have helped you become less shy. And don't forget to connect with me 然後別忘了查看 on all of my social media. I've got my Facebook, I've got my Instagram, 我有我的 Facebook 我有我的 Instagram and I've got my Twitter. Twitter And I shall see you soon for another lesson. (lighthearted music) Today I'm going to talk to you 今天我要跟你們談談 about how, ow. (笑) Today, I'm going to talk to you ab-a-ah, 今天,我要和你談談ab-a-ah oh, it just happened again! 喔... Oh my god. Once you've found somebody that you want 一旦你找到了你想要說話的人 to speak to. (sighs) (electronic beep) 說話... (嘆氣) It is, what is it? (laughs) (electronic beep) 它就是.... (笑) Right my next tip is, 我的下一個技巧是 rah, rah, rawr! (laughs) (electronic beep) rah...rah...rawr! (笑) It's really, really important for fry. 炒?(笑) Fry people.
