Though, at this time, racism, sexism, violence, hatred, and corruption were the norm, they were rubbing up against an expanding moral consciousness carried out by countercultural movements like the 60s hippie movement. There were growing efforts, hopes, and promises of greater peace, acceptance, and societal function.
