Hello VoiceTubers! How are you today? One of the reasons that we wanna pick up a new language might be we hope to communicate with either native speakers or people from different countries without language barriers. Because a second language is not our mother tongue, so sometimes it’s a little bit hard for us to talk at ease. So how to avoid awkward conversations? We'll go back to this topic later, and now it’s time for today’s sentence.

Pronunciation Tips:
1. I’ve (1) Contractive form of “I have” (2) American: /aɪv/ (Americans use I’ve more than I have) (3) Squish “I” and “have” together, and eliminate the /hv/ sound in /həv/.
2. Asian: (1) Two parts- a-sian /ˈeɪ.ʒən/ (2) How to pronounce /ʒ/ sound? It’s the voiced sound of the sound /ʃ/. Their mouth positions are the same, while you have to let air pass your voice chord when you pronounce /ʒ/. Your lips should be rounded.
3. Cultures (1) Two parts: cul-ture /ˈkʌl.tʃɚ/ (2) /ʌ/ is a very relaxed sound. Only the jaw drops. Lips are relaxed. (3) /ɚ/ is said faster, and in lower pitch, like in “mother.”
4. Opportunity: (1) Four parts: o-ppor-tu-nity /ˌɑː.pɚˈtuː.nə.t̬i/

Vocabulary:
1. Asian (a) 亞洲的 KK [ˋeʃən] IPA /ˈeɪ.ʒən/
Def:belonging to or relating to Asia or its people
Rice is the staple diet in many Asian countries.
米飯是許多亞洲國家的主食。

2. Offer (v) 提供 KK[ˋɔfɚ] IPA /ˈɑː.fɚ/
Def: to provide or supply something
She was offered a position to work in the library, but she turned it down.

3. Opportunity (n) 機會 KK [͵ɑpɚˋtjunətɪ] IPA /ˌɑː.pɚˈtuː.nə.t̬i/
Def: an occasion or situation that makes it possible to do something that you want to do or have to do, or the possibility of doing something
She had been preparing for a long time for this hard-to-come-by opportunity.

I think one of the tips to avoid awkward conversations is to try to relate this topic to others to broaden the possible topic that you can talk about. Just like in the video, when the girl as the guy why he came to Taiwan, the guy said, “I’ve always been interested in Asian cultures, and was offered a good job opportunity.” By saying so, it gives the girl “opportunities” to ask further questions like, “Which parts of Asian cultures interest you the most?” or “ What kind of job opportunity?” Different topics are like different lines. You can follow the line to know more about the person better, and maybe find connections between you guys.
