Hello VoiceTube listeners! Welcome back to the Pronunciation Challenge with me, Hugh, as your host for today’s episode! I don’t know if you listeners remember my last episode but I did mention how I was supposed to return to Asia this week right? Well, turns out, a couple days before my flight I had to do a PCR test to return to Hong Kong and guess what? Yes, I tested positive. I’m currently in isolation and I am finally feeling better. I don’t take any days off so I’m still here for you! I’ll be ok!
Alright, so who else loves watching anything shark related?! I think sharks bring out the child in all of us when we are watching any shark documentaries. They’re interesting creatures and there is so much we still don’t know about them! The lady in the video will definitely agree with me. She spent 26 years observing the same group of sharks! The way they cuddle up to her is amazing. I’d like to try that one day with the chainmail armor to protect me of course.
Ok, let’s get to the featured sentence.
Today’s featured sentence: They have very different personalities; their body language, the way they approach me, the way they interact with me, each one of them has their unique way of doing.
I’ll say that again.
They have very different personalities; their body language, the way they approach me, the way they interact with me, each one of them has their unique way of doing.
Ok, now time for the Pronunciation Tips.
For the first word, we have personalities Five syllables. “Per” has your typical “E R” combination sound. “Son” has more of a short U sound. “Na” has a short A sound. “Li” has a short U sound and “ties” has a long E sound. Personalities.
Next up, we have
language Two syllables This one is tough to explain but I’ll try my best. “Lang” has an “A N G” combination at the end so we want to bring the sound up to our nose. “ANG”. “LANG”. “Guage” if spelt out, sounds like “gwich”. Language.
Lastly, we have,
unique Two syllables. “U” is just the letter U. “Nique” has a long E sound with a K sound at the end. Unique.
Moving onto Vocabulary!
The first word is:
1. approach Definition to come near or nearer to something or someone in space, time, quality, or amount Used in a sentence you could say, “I was afraid to approach the dog because it looked mean.”
Next word,
2. interact Definition to communicate with or react to Used in a sentence, you could say: “A lot of parents don’t have much time to interact with their children because of work.”
And lastly,
3. unique Definition: being the only existing one of its type or, more generally, unusual, or special in some way Used in a sentence, you could say: “Every person on planet Earth is a unique individual.”
Cristina Zenato (the woman in the video) is definitely a special person. She has dedicated her entire life to sharks. Sometimes, you just know what you want to do in life. I’m sure her job has its difficulties but diving into those crystal blue waters and playing with friendly sharks all day sounds pretty awesome. It would be so nice to get away right now and hang out by a nice warm beach. As of this episode, I should have been in isolation for one week by now. I guess it’s no different from all the quarantines I’ve gone through. I’ve done 7 to date, or was that 6? I’m losing count at this point.
Ok, time to get those recordings in if you haven’t done so already. Give me a follow on Instagram if you want to see what I’m up to @hughtran_. Until the next episode, (and hopefully, I’ll be negative by then) see ya!
